Something is wrong with my 2k3
I can play one map on any server, but as soon as I try to play another map on the server, whether it's Levi's or any other server, the program just shuts off. I have no idea why; no error message, no nothing. Does anyone have any ideas?

Re: Something is wrong with my 2k3
Dan, this is always a tough one. Seems like everyone has the same problem at one time or another. There are still some custom maps that crash my UT2K3 and at least once or twice during an online session I'll get dropped from from the server.
Do you know if the crashes occur just with custom maps or do they occur with standard maps as well? Have you installed the recent patch? Any major mods installed (ChaosUT crashed all the time for me even after they came up with a supposed fix).
You could try getting rid of anything in the Cache folder. If you want to save the things in your Cache folder try my cleancache script. Check to see that you have the connection speed set correctly in Settings | Network. Can try backing up your User.ini and UT2003.ini files out of your ~/Library/Application Support/Unreal Tournament 2003/System folder then deleting them from the System folder. When you start up UT2K3 again new User.ini and UT2003.ini files will be created. You'll then have to reset your settings. Brain had problems with frequent crashes online

Re: Something is wrong with my 2k3
DocB speaks wisdom. His clean cache script is a total gas (thx again Doc!). Next time you crash, check your UT2003.log file**. You may find something interesting. After contacting them, MacSoft has asked for my logs. They seem to be responsive, given the size of the staff.
I'm actually still running 2k3 with the patch applied, even though I'm using an nVidia card. I've been too lazy to reinstall. My problems were mostly fixed with the re-install, oddly enough, by switching from the Evil Announcer to the stock Announcer. Yet, I can still see path problems in the log relating to the Announcer. The game is looking for specific Announcer sound files and not finding them. I don't know if this is a fault with custom maps, or just built into my install.
** typical path to the log:

Brain, I see the same things in the log of my install and if you notice the announcer skips some numbers when counting down for the start of another round in BR and I get no audible count down in DM. I think there may still be problems in the OpenAL code. BTW the patch does more than just patch the ATI graphics stuff

Re: Something is wrong with my 2k3
Just for laughs I switched to the Evil Announcer last night and was unable, again, to join any games; suffering the same ghosting problem that had haunted me before. Switching back to the Standard Announcer fixed the problem. I've put MacSoft on to this anomaly.
From the log I can see the game is failing to load certain announcer sound files, countdowns, etc.
I'd love to see another patch.

It's Flea's old rig (literally) with a new graphics card.
G4 733, 1 gig RAM, 10.2.8, 128MB GeForce4Ti.

Re: Something is wrong with my 2k3
Oh, THAT one! I'm sorry you're hosed.
Ok so we can take ATI out of the picture. Have you done all normal trouble shooting for OSX? Scan the drive, fix permissions...etc. We need to take the OS out of the picture too. Does the server matter? Can you connect to others and not mine. Maybe I need to look inward.
Default UT2K3 install? Did you install it on a different drive or folder. Did you install, add patches, add BP & then add maps or was there some other order to the total install. Maybe some standard files got over written with modified ones (just a guess).
I guess the first thing to try is turn down all your video settings, go with the bare min. (aka: make it ugly). See if that improves things. I'm thinking that something (texture) is overloading the system. Also change the audio. Go ugly with that too, use the default announcer. Worked for Brain. In a nutshell, we need to put the least amount of stress on your machine. Then we can work from there.
