Jump the Shark!

The kids' network Nickelodeon seems to have gotten worse recently. I thought it was just because I had just grown out of it, but after reading this jump the shark I remember lots of better shows they used to play when I wasn't a teen. I don't get how anyone can like all that stupid MTV ripoff stuff. The stuff they have on Nick @ Nite isn't even all that good anymore. They used to have Taxi, Mary Tyler Moore, I Love Lucy, and many other good older shows, but now they have crap like Three's Company and Family Ties. The only thing they show on Nick @ Nite right now that is any good is All in the Family. As for the Cosby Show, Bill Cosby is a very funny guy, and the openings to the series are breathtaking, but the writing on the show is pretty aweful; they just turned it into yet another sitcom. Nick @ Nite isn't even as long as it used to be. They've shortened it several times over the years so that they could fit in more and more of the crappy MTV stuff!

Re: Jump the Shark!

Even when I was a little kid, I thought the Nickelodeon stuff was pretty stupid.  I wish that Cartoon Network had existed 15 years ago!

Re: Jump the Shark!

I used to watch Nickelodeon back a few years ago. However, I haven't watched it for a while now. And that's probably because they don't have a single good show on.

Re: Jump the Shark!

Nick was good when i was a kid. Well, sort of good. I really only liked a few shows...mainly Ren and Stimpy and Rockos Modern Life. Real Monsters was pretty good too.

I do like Spongebob, but the only time i ever watch it is when my nephews or niece are watching it. I don't activly seek to watch it in my free time. I recall enjoying the Discovery channel as a kid more than Nickoledeon except for those few shows I did enjoy.

You're not copying /., you forgot the CowboyNeal option.

I prefer NOG, why?  Re-runs of pete and pete, clarissa, and daria.  Otherwise it sucks too.

Haha, well at school I don't get many channels so when I'm home I take advantage of what I miss and watch Daria and Pete & Pete.

Speaking of home, you really in Cambridge?
I'm out in Acton/Boxborough(when I'm home)

Re: Jump the Shark!

Don't ask me why, but this morning I was watching this show called "Endurance" on Discovery kids.  (The feed was also carried by NBC at the same time).  Anyway, it is basically a complete ripoff of survivor, but without the surviving part, only the game, and it's with kids not adults.  Anyway, it was really viscious!  The teams had to nominate each other to compete to be sent off the island, and they have this handicap thing you can put on other teams and then they have no chance of winning the next game, etc.  And some of the kids are just cruel.  They form factions, bully, tease and pick on each other.  It's was really upsetting to see such behavior in a show for kids.  Not just because of the bad examples set, but the contestants from the show shouldn't have to go through that.  There is even this one girl on the yellow team who is exactly like Jerri from the second survivor.  She is nasty, pretending to like guys so they won't vote her off, etc.  Essentially she is a smurf.  To be honest, the reason I watched the show today was because she was really hot.  She definately uses that to her advantage.

Re: Jump the Shark!

We stopped getting cable TV when my brother went to college, but there was some trouble with the line the other day (we have a cable modem) and when they fixed it, they gave us the full cable TV package by mistake.  I was hoping to get to watch Get Smart for the first time sice first grade, but it doesn't seem to be on anymore.

I have a lot of friends who are obsessed with Recess, although I don't think it's on Nickelodeon.
