68040 vs 68LC040
How much faster is it with fpu? I don't just mean in tasks that use fpu, but in everything. Like for example, if I upgrade it to a full 68040, will I get any more speed in say, gameboy emulation?

Re: 68040 vs 68LC040
I know it is much faster for basic operations. I had a quadra that I upped to a full '040 and everything sped up. For gameboy emulation, I can only assume that since games use a lot of math, and you have an fpu now, it would make a big difference.
Hope it helps.

Re: 68040 vs 68LC040
I picked up a Centris 650 from my district's school auction, and it is SUPPOSED to have a full 25Mhz 68040, but instead it has a 68LC040. Why is this? Was it a cost cutting built-to-order option?

idunno - it was a Centris.Apple probably pulled stunts like that from time to time without telling anybody. I have a full-fledged Quadra 650, with the 33 MHz 68040 (Not LC) and it rocks.

Re: 68040 vs 68LC040
It *SHOULD* run MpegDec (an MP3 player for 68k Macs) better than the LC '040, but i'm not sure. Sometime when i get the chance i must load up the LC630 (which has a full '040, btw) with the latest version and find out!

Go with the upgrade if it a reasonable price and you do use that computer a lot. If you use it a lot it is worth the money to make the computer just that much faster.
