Re: iPhoto2
I think the separate download is for iPhoto v.1. I think 2 only comes with iLife

Re: iPhoto2
iDVD has never been free and never will be, because of licensing issues. The other 3 iLife apps will remain as free downloads, but the bundle can be purchased for those who can't/won't/don't want to download everything. (Or who want iDVD.. obviously)

iPhoto 2 the freedownload may not necessarily be iPhoto 2 the iLife version. iP2iLife could be enhanced with licensing stuff such as "EXPORT to *.gif".

Re: iPhoto2
As an apple rep at MacWorld told me, the downloaded version, assuming you download all the newest app versions, will be identical to the iLife CD, except without iDVD, which is too big to be available for download.

Yes. Where/why/how did you get it?

Re: iPhoto2
How and where? Not telling.
Anyway, it's pretty similar to iPhoto 1, apart from a few key differences.
There's no "share" tab, instead it's integrated into the organize tab. There are also new "burn" and ".Mac slides" buttons.
You can remove the drop shadows and borders from the Organize view, making it a heckuva lot faster.
There's a Trash in the albums part of the window, and all the icons there are redesigned slightly.
The 1-Click Enhance really does work - on most images. If the image is deliberately cast towards one particular color, it messes the whole image up. Badly.
The retouch brush also works rather well, although it takes a lot of scrubbing around with the TINY (like 5 pixels) little brush size. I'll stick with Photoshop for that one.
Best New Feature?: When you do a slideshow, a little window pops up showing your entire iTunes library. You can select a song, or choose from the pop-up between all your playlists. You can sort the list, or even search, similar to the iTunes version. However, there isn't zooming in the slideshow yet. I wanted it to be more like the screensaver.
The book tab has been streamlined a bit.
And the whole app is a *lot* faster. Really, you can notice the difference big-time.

So they did remove the "sucking big time" feature?

go to your OS X drive and then the main library/image capture/scripts and use the Build Slide Show app to do that!! What a little gem that hardly anyone knows about.
Drop a folder of photos on it and let it run.. only thing is it won't do music and can't be saved

It's still iPhoto. It isn't, and will never be, Photoshop.
For cataloguing your photos and some basic retouching, it's OK, but anything else, it's nonfunctional. iPhoto is iPhoto and will only be iPhoto.

I seem to remember someone saying this was a problem...

Yes, the library can be on any drive or partition. You just have to keep an alias to "iPhoto Library" folder in your "Pictures" folder in your "Home" folder (directory). And, don't mess with the contents inside the "iPhoto Library" folder. Just move it all together and it will stay happy.

What do you mean by that? How is the folder organized?
Also, can you have sub-folders in the album listings? I like to have a folder for Family, School, Concerts, Raves, Misc, People, etc...is that possible?

iPhoto creates it's own folders whenever you import pictures into your iPhoto library. You can import directly from your digital camera or from other folders of pictures. What I meant was, don't move, rename or delete these folders. You can organize your photos inside iPhoto into albums and name those albums anything you like. I'm not sure if you can have an album as a "sub-album" of another album. I haven't tried doing that. Also, if you want to delete any photos, do it from inside iPhoto.

Re: iPhoto2
Thats lame.
a) iPhoto should have folders for albums
b) it should not be so sensitive to changes made in the folder...it wouldn't be so hard to have the iPhoto database automatically updated to reflect those changes, would it?
Also, can you import photos from your hard drive? I have a couple gigs of photos already on my computer. There has to be a way to get them into iPhoto, right?

I'm sure you have tried Import? It should let you go to the folder that the pictures are in.

Actually, it's even easier than that... just drag the photo files onto the iPhoto window. That will import them all.
