Dreamweaver MX '04: Opinions?
Howdy all!
I just installed Dreamweaver MX '04 last night, and I'm wondering if anyone is having a better expieriance with it than I am. It seems incredibly sluggish and buggy... I was having it hang for almost a minute on just changing a font to bold!
Now, there is one mitigating factor: I'm on a stock 12in 1ghz, with only 256megs of RAM. I'm planning on upgrading to at least 512 in the next week, I'm banking on this taking care of the issue!

Except for Fireworks for Windows, I'm not a fan of any of their software.

Re: Dreamweaver MX '04: Opinions?
I used to be into Dreamweaver in a big way, but since I've become more comfortable with just looking at code, I've found it more and more cumbersome.
So, tell me this: is there another piece of OSX software out there that has a simple design view like Dreamweaver? I spend a lot of my time in code, but for initial layouts, I find it helpful to design graphically.
Thanks for any input you have!

Ya, (like some of the other guys here) I've found DWMX 2004 to be slow and buggy too.
Odds are, the Windows version will feel better for a lot of people. Typically, the Macromedia starts development on Windows, waits till a feature set is complete, and then ships their software overseas to be ported and completed. This usually results in slightly buggy Windows software, and Mac software with even more bugs.
I tried getting into GoLive CS. It has a nice new interface and some cool new features (ie, finally being able to zoom in and out); yet it's kind of slow and poopy on my dual 450. Scrolling in source view is painfull ... and it shouldn't be.
Right now I'm sticking with last years web development tools. This new batch is kind of weak.

I had already tried out MX 2004 on both platforms, and I think the secret is RAM. Like Scott, I had very little problems with 2004, and have few if any problems with MX.....
That's on a Dual 500 machine with 1.5 Gigs of RAM.

I don't suppose BBEdit has a design view, does it?
It does now! If that was the intention of your smiley, then disregard this reply

Whoa! I didn't know that, My smiley was one of hope for the future!
I'll be trying this out tonight, I hope it's to my liking! I'd much rather spend money supporting the Mac software community than shell out dough for underdeveloped Macromedia products: it's not like I need cold fusion integration and all that fancy stuff.

Re: Dreamweaver MX '04: Opinions?
Dreamweaver MX is decent. I was thinking about getting '04 but the reviews haven't been terribly positive. For a fulll upgrade there aren't a lot of new features. And only modest improved support for PHP/MYSQL. Always sad to see how far up Microsoft's corporate bunghole software companies have the heads inserted.
Fireworks MX is an absolute DOG. Takes forever to boot. Buggy too. I remember being able to use those "links" to create image swap outs in FW 4 but now I have to click on the button and navigate a dialogue window. That sucks. I've also had a lot of problems with CLoning and Duplicating buttons in FWMX that I didn't have with the prior version.
Why did upgrade?
I'm becoming seriously distrustful of companies boasting about their software features. As in, I think most of that "techno" speak really came from the marketing department.
Time to upgrade our BS detectors?

Re: Dreamweaver MX '04: Opinions?
Fireworks has got better with each version both in performance and feature sets. Each sucessive version (MX and MX04) have had serious improvements, and very good interface changes. If you just play around with, you may not need or even see them. If you use it as part of your work flow, you will understand and appriciate the chance and see the improvements. However no image editor exports decent html.
I am using MX04 on a 333mhzG3 and a 1ghzG4 in both cases the the performance is just fine, no sluggishness at all. I am also running it on a Win2k - P4. It performs very well there as well, but often the app will get an "exception" error and crash. It seems to be only certain files, but the error does not occur on the Mac version with the same file.

Re: Dreamweaver MX '04: Opinions?
Hi
Seems fine to me. I haven't really had a huge project in awhile, a few updates here and there but it seems just fine to me. I don't use a lot of the interface buttons as I still do a lot of the coding myself but eh, whatever, to each his own, I guess.
