Re: So... who has Halo? What do you think?
Single player is slightly repetitive. Needs a map on the HUD, or at least one to pull up on your own. Least something that gives better direction at times.
The AR has a compass, and Cortana's waypoints make it tough to really get lost.
Why do the aliens sound like Bobs?
Its funny at first but then you wonder why they sound so stupid.
Intent? They're funny, and not the Galaxy's highest lifeforms vis a vis intelligence.
Only handle 2 guns at once is a downside. It works in Recon but in a fast action game like Halo, needs maybe 3-4.
Only two makes you think as well as run 'n' gun. Adjust and change frequently.
Warthog handles like poo, needs controls to be more keyboard bound instead of 50/50 with mouse.
Warthog handles great once you adjust. Tank control could be better, because of the turret; be better to be able to traverse away from direction of movement.
AI is excellent tho. Course Bungie always was good with AI creating.
Overall, its good and not as intensive on requirements as AVP2 is. But it could be better.
Halo runs far slower than AvP2 at comparable detail. You must be running FF.

i disagree; for computers on the low end of AVP2's recommended system specs, like mine, it runs like CRAP on lowest detail settings. it might look better, but it's choppy as hell and completely unplayable. in some places as a marine, i could get my framerates as high as 15, but then i turned my flashlight on (necessary for the marine) and *bam* there i am back at 1 fps. halo, on the other hand, runs great with vertex shaders, extreme lens flare, medium model detail, no decals, low particles and textures, and high sound quality. it looks really nice and only slows down in large outdoor fights, or with the flood.

Must be some serious differences in the Mac and PC versions... I ran the demo comfortably at fairly high settings on min spec CPU and RAM with a Voodoo 5, which has no hardware T&L. Not super, but smooth... Been meaning to find and retry on current setup, light-years more capable. How is it as a game, IYO? AvP2 Gold on shelves for $20.

yeah, i've got THE minimum cpu spec, and it's not nearly enough. but i played (and beat) the pc version on my buddy's computer, they did a good job with the atmosphere of the single play. there are a few of those stupid "protect this or that thing or person, who constantly throws themselves in harm's way and can't shoot for smurf" missions, but overall a fun, if gory, game. haven't tried multi yet, although i'd imagine the predator would own the others if played competantly.

Warthog is great when you stop trying to drive it and get used to point-and-go. But you can still make it handle fast.

yeah, the warthog is fun to drive! i also agree with bat about how it sucks that you can't move in one direction and traverse the turret on the tank w/o turning as well.
