Re: Server Lag?
12/28/03:9:25 AM, Hawaii Standard Time
I noticed lag while I was typing in a reply box. The characters were going slightly slower then the actual typing speed.
That's O.E.

It is 0229 GMT right now. I had a slowdown about an hour and a half ago, maybe a little less.
Edit: Duh.
It's 29 Dec.

Re: Server Lag?
Yes I have been experiencing extreme lag. Pages use to come up nice and quick. Now it takes between 5 and 10 seconds for my request. I am sick of safari telling me:
Contacted www.macaddict.com waiting for reply.
I never used to see that before.
I use a cable connection rated at 5mbit down and 512kbit up.
Thanks for caring enough to put the sticky here. I assumed one of the staff took the xserve home and replaced it with a bondi mac whilst no one was looking.

Are there any plans to upgrade if Apple releases a G5 server?

Re: Server Lag?
IMPORTANT:
I think the problem is the vSpiralFull template. I was trying that out and everything slowed to a crawl. I've switched back to subsilver and everything is fine.

Nope. Happened to me about 15 minutes ago. I only use the default appearance.

Re: Server Lag?
Just for gee wiz info, what number of unique IPs can the server handle hitting it at once?
Or maybe there is too much garbage in the server. For instance, dead usernames that have not been active for over one year; any forum that has more than, say, 30 pages of history behind it. Maybe they should be moved or deleted.

They just got rid of - what was it, 20,000 inactive usernames? That was just mid-year.

I thought it was 1600. And they didn't get rid of all the inactive usernames. If they've logged on but never posted, they're still with us. To me, inactive is not posting. Who cares if they log on.

12:07 am (just after midnight)
Exact same time, following day
midnight hawaii time, 7? board time
was about 30 seconds lag to enter any topic, then all problems went away

Is the server running X? If so, is it performing its CRON maintenance activities at midnight?

Get out of my mind!

Re: Server Lag?
In the last 10 minutes. It was taking a minute or two to load topics (just sitting there, not drawing images or anything) and I had a timeout on one page.

It has been really sluggish all day for me.
Like I said in that other thread... I think it's the Y2K+4 bug.

That didn't happen to be after you smoked a bowl or two, did it?
Maybe you're the one who's lagging.

Nope. I smoked a bowl or two after words however.
