Airport card config problems

I just put an Airport wireless card (not the extreme) in my G4 400 tower.  I want it to connect to a smc wireless router, but have not had any success.  A dell laptop in my house connects fine wirelessly along with every other computer in the house but I can not get mine to connect to save my life!  I had a wire running to my computer and it would not work before.  Maybe there is a software problem or something, I don't know.  I would greatly appreciate any response on a possible fix.

Re: Airport card config problems

Well there are a few gaps here -- I'm going to go ahead and assume you're on OS X and give the following ideas:

If you want to share files, try System Preferences - activate "Windows File Sharing"

If you want an internet connection, and the network requires you to enter a password, enter a $ at the very beginning (i.e. "$password") - don't ask me why, but that has gotten my Mac friends onto more PC networks that way...

Re: Airport card config problems

Thanks for the reply!  My card is still not picking up my router?!?  I am running OS X 10.2.3 and my router does not have encryption enabled.

Re: Airport card config problems

can you give some more info please.

1. Does the airport option show up under you network control panel?
2. Do you have an airport menu bar item? (An inverted triangle next to the clock)
3. Did you connect the antena lead? (as odd as it sounds I have had seen more trouble with people not having the lead all the way in the card than you would think...)

There is no reason it should not work, I"ve used my TiBook and my G4 Sawtooth with SMC, linksys, apple, Siemens, and a couple of others without any problems.
AIM me @ petzlzoom if you want some live help.
