HELP! Choppy Games & Radeon 7000 Stuff
I have a B&W G-3 upgraded to a G-4 550. I am running OS X 10.2.3 and have 832 Mb of RAM. I have an ATI Radeon 7000 Mac Edition PCI card attached to a 17? Apple Multiple Scan monitor.
I recently updated the driver for the ATI card, as well as some drivers for my Epson scanner and printer.
Now my games (Deus Ex & Ghost Recon Demo), which ran just fine for the last few months have a refresh rate like a slide show. I have tried setting all the game options to their lowest settings, and I still get chop, chop, chop.
I updated the ATI?s flash ROM with the updater from their web site, I zapped my PRAM, I threw away the ?ini? files that tell the game my preferences (or their equivalent), and I still get chop, chop, chop.
Has anyone else had this happen? Can anyone suggest a fix? I?m at the end of my technical knowledge.

Re: HELP! Choppy Games & Radeon 7000 Stuff
Did you update the ATI drivers after you upgraded to 10.2.3? If you did, then that's most likely the source of your problems. As of this date, 10.2.3 still has the latest ATI drivers. Installing any retail ones over 10.2.3 will downgrade your drivers and could complete break OpenGL on some systems.
General rule of thumb, do not install ATI drivers which are older than the latest Mac OS X update (this has to be about the 10th time this weekend I've posted something along these lines...).
Oh, btw, both of the games you mentioned will run significantly better in Mac OS 9. I've seen 25-30% performance increases in Ghost Recon by switching to OS 9. And Deus Ex has to run in OS X through classic which absolutely kills performance.

Ooops, I forgot to mention the fix in my post. That was probably my fifth time typing up a message about the ATI October drivers and 10.2.3 that day I totally forgot to mention just reinstalling 10.2.3.
