I have had great experiences with my brother's BOSE QuietComfort 2 Noise-Cancellation headphones. They sound much better than the iPod 'buds, yet they cost $299, the price of the iPod I use, and guzzle batteries. I value the portability of headphones more than I value the sound.

Plus the fact that you can hear outside noises if you were to listen to music while riding your bike or jogging or something.

You must be using them wrong. The bass response is supposed to be better because of the in-ear design. The same reason why the bass gets louder when you push the regular earbuds closer to your ear canal.
I'm not "using them wrong", its not hard to know how o use earbuds. Anyway i took them back cuz they SUCKED. Apple should edit what they say about them, they are NOT better.

Wow that really sucks! I'd be more inclined to believe you as you are a real user. I was thinking about getting them. Guess I am just gonna have to save money for the etymotics and see if I can test them before I buy. If I get to try out some of the Apple ones I'll let you know if I concur that they do suck for me as well. I am pleased with my workhorse Sony 7506 headphones for a full range reference on occasion and just for recording overdubs, but I don't see myself hitting the street with them plugged into an iPod, or any other gigantic headphone for that matter.
If you look around the table and can't tell who the sucker is, it's you.
