"Channel One News" in private schools.

Does anyone but me have to put up with this brainwashing, politically correct, uninformative, low quality piece-of-smurf broadcast in their private schools? (In my school, they'll actually give you detention if you don't look at the stupid TV while it's playing). I just hope I'm not the only one having to wacth this joke of a news broadcast.

Private schools?  Don't know of any private schools that show the channel myself.  But most of the public schools I know do (middle school and high schools, that is).

they DO show in public schools? Is it optional, or do they make you watch it?

they cant make you do anything in public schools, they can however throw you out for not doing what they say.

Re: "Channel One News" in private schools.

Exactly. And Channel One has been in public schools for a long time.

If you don't watch it, schools don't get funding for multimedia equipment that the Ch1 network offers if the kiddos are watching the ads and heavily-sponsored content.

Best thing you can do in a larger school is to band together and raise political heck over it. Convince the higher-ups that you'd rather not have any equipment or funding for programs if it means whoring you out.

At a smaller school? You won't have much, if any, impact. But the Consumer Reports magazine "Zillions" encouraged such quiet, organized revolts against the Channel One establishment, which ultimately led to CR stopping publication of the teen mag.

Make a stand, write some literature and distribute. If you get disciplinary threats, be sure to have them make clear to you what rules you're violating that you agreed to when you joined up with the school. Chances are they don't exist and they have no basis for making you do something that is out of the control of the discretion of the educator.

Look into it, act when it's safe. Hope that helps.

it would be nice if I wasn't already so ridiculously lucky enough to get awayh with three years without a single disciplinary action. You actually get an award if you can pull it off until graduation. I can't push my luck.

We spent the rest of the week watching CNN after 9/11. On the actual day when it happened, however, most of my classmates and I were out selling ads for the yearbook in another town. Didn't really know what happened until we got back, we just saw blips here and there when we were trying to get the job done.

Re: "Channel One News" in private schools.

Channel One sucks ass.  My sister HAS to watch it and take notes on it every day, and has to turn it into her history teacher for a grade.

Freshman year I had a chill A period teacher so we never had to watch it.  Sophomore year we had to.  Junior year I had a college class so the teacher lectured through it.  This year the teacher tries to make us watch but we just talk.

Personally, I hate the programming that's on it.  It's heavily biased Republican and it's catered towards middle and elementary school children.  It has no place in a HS.  For people who don't know, they did a big election coverage where they talked to teens about their political leanings and such.  These kids had no idea what they were talking about and were obviously teleprompted.  Kerry leaners showed huge biases towards Bush and Bush leaners showed huge biases towards Bush.  On top of this, not one of the interviewed was of voting age, they were 16-17.

Channel One = Consumer Whores Network

You actually get an award if you can pull it off until graduation.

An award for watching TV? Point proven.

I can't push my luck.

It's senior year.  It's a useless award that colleges could only feasably look down upon if they saw it.  Take a stand and a risk.  Worse comes to worse, you don't get an award for being Channel One's bitch, but you would have helped others avoid the same fate.

No, an award for no disciplinary action taken on them. Which is dumb.

Re: "Channel One News" in private schools.

I've heard that my school had numerous petitions sent to the headmaster's office along the same lines, but none have proved effective.

I don't know if there is anything I can do.

Still, it's a cherry on top of the college admissions sundae.

You know how a couple of kids in PCHS protested the school IT department phasing out the Macintoshes and replacing them with Dell PCs in exchange for some cushy kick-backs?

They went around and stole all the mouse balls. Think about that.

That's what you get when you know the Superintendent of the schools and the HS teacher used to work at techTV.  Pubic School must suck for some of you.
