We are destroying our rivers with animal waste and blood. The Mississippi River is completely destroyed because of all the pig and chicken farms along its banks. We are destroying the rainforest in Brazil for cheap grazing land so you can have a slightly cheaper hamburger at McDonalds. Frankly animal rights and human rights are intertwined, it's the same planet that we live on.
Umm...that's a bit of a stretch. I don't know how we went from PETA to the destruction of the rainforest.

btw... notice the expressions on the chickens as they are debeaked in this clip from BARAKA... the debeaking occurs around 1:30.. notice the red hot metal that is pressed into their beaks until it burns off... notice the smoke that comes from the debeaking...
Gives you new appreciation for hunters. They only kill a few animals as opposed to mass slaughter and they usually do it relatively humanely as compared to throw the birds on a conveyor belt and buring off their beaks, or like cows slicing their throats.

He makes a good point though (even though it was the one I tried to make). PETA thinks it's concerned with animal rights. There's nothing in this argument about the rainforest, and for Lennon to make that jump from issue to issue was stupid and utterly unconvincing.

the slash and burn tactics were used to feed farm animals.... also, consider the thousands of animals living in a rainforest and what happens to them when their habitat is removed.

I read over most of this thread and I like to imagine that there is some poor pathetic PETA representatives or activists reading over it.....(if not someone should send them a link to this thread).. I can picture them tearing up and growing worse after each post.... Just knowing that you have make a PETA person cry, HAS to be one of the greatest feelings in the world!
When will someone start puttin up "PETA human cruelty" billboards?

I think some PETA types are nuts. We have several major fishing tournaments in this area. The PETA folks decided we were overdue for a protest. So they decided to put in an appearance at a nationally sponsored bass fishing tournament.
To make a really good impression, several PETA members took off their clothes. That's right they protested in the nude. 
They tried to fight the indecent exposure charge on free speech grounds. the local judges took care of that. What bothered me wasn;t the indecency so much; they were just plain disgusting.

Well, for an even worst place to protest, PETA activists protested in Petco Park (San Diego ballpark) about how evil it is to own pets, and were even handing out fliers. They were booed out of the stadium.
Yup! Animals are so much happier in the wild, being hunted down by predators and starving then in a nice, warm house with plenty to eat, drink, playthings, and loving owners!

if you really wanted to feed these people, you would support the lowering of prices on food for poverty stricken nations. but capitalism rears its ugly head... if you can gouge them, then do so. let them starve. its not your fault they don't earn enough money to buy your overpriced food.
