Help me petition NASCAR.com!!
If you're an Apple computer user like me, and you've tried playing any video clips at NASCAR.com lately, you've seen the message telling us that RealOne player is not available for Mac OS.
Fact is, RealOne for Mac has been available for months now, but the eedjits who run NASCAR.com don't have their act together. With Speedweeks coming up, it's about time they got this fixed.
So head over to http://www.nascar.com/guides/customer_s … _help.html and tell them it's time to fix it. Please do this now, it'll take you only a minute.
Thanks.

Meh. Anything in real isn't worth watching anyway.

Re: Help me petition NASCAR.com!!
I thought of including a suggestion that they use QuickTime, but let's take it a step at a time. Any video beats none at all.
Then again, if you want to tell them they should use QuickTime, go ahead. It's your petition.
But please tell them something. I can't stand the way they flip the bird at Mac users like this.

What do you expect? NASCAR doesn't know that fuel injection or overhead cams exist either!
a non-cheap, non-domestic beer can be ok on occasion. but a pbr in a plastic cup can be a thing of beauty.

And just how do you put a restrictor plate on a fuel injector? Just asking.
Nascar isn't about the latest and greatest tech, it's about the drivers -- in cars that are pretty equally matched. This isn't F1, where only the billion-dollar teams have a chance of winning.
Anyway, I did my part and filled out the form. The funny part is that I went to Real's web site and RealOne for Mac OS X is now final. When did that happen?

umm... yeah.. why not just use safari and enable the debug menu and tell it to tell sites that is is "Windows MSIE 6.0"???
ok, nevermind.. the reason it dosnt work on osX is due to the fact that there is no RealPlayer plugin for mac osX... so if you want to watch them, complain to real to make a browser plugin for their player for osX

The only problem with that workaround is that it will give the server false information. If a majority of Mac users did that, then what incentive would Nascar have to accomidate Mac users? According to their server logs, there would be even fewer Mac users than there really are.
It may get you video, but it will do nothing to help Mac users in general.

Theres one other problem if you got the video, you'd have to watch NASCAR videos!!

Re: Help me petition NASCAR.com!!
Yeah, I'd rather be watching ALMS videos.
Still, let's flood the bastards at NASCAR.com (which is actually a property of Turner Broadcasting) with messages until they realize that they can't treat us Mac people like smurf.

I'm going to bump this until NASCAR.com gets the message. (Or until the mods command me to stop.)

Re: Help me petition NASCAR.com!!
The solution to your problem is to just become a fan of the Indy Racing League! They are Mac friendly and all their video clips are only offered in Quicktime downloads! Plus, the Daytona 500 is a minor race compared to the Indianapolis 500!

• 15.4" MacBook Pro, 2.16GHz C2D, 3GB RAM, 160GB HD,
OSX 10.4, connected via EV-DO modem.
• iPhone 8GB, 1st gen.
• iPod nano 2GB Silver, 2nd gen.

Like that IRL version of the Indy 500 does anything besides suck. Sorry, but I gave up on going to IMS when the IRL came into being. Once they die, I'll go back. Tony George smurfed up open-wheel racing in the US with that little power-grab.

Oh yeah, just the best possible use of my Mac...loud, ugly cars going in an endless loop, the occassional crash, and hooting rednecks as far as the eye can see.
Could we start a petition to just make NASCAR go away?

Sounds a lot like Windows

Please bestow upon me your great wisdom as to why Tony George does not deserve to control the destiny of HIS speedway and race?
The IRL is not going anywhere. I guess IMS will have to try and survive without you.
I think they can do it! They've had almost 90 years of experience!

That's because the elite use Macs and Nascar caters to anything BUT the elite.

Re: Help me petition NASCAR.com!!
REAL is a joke. Their attention is devoted to Windows. Let 'em hang.
And to heck with NASCAR. I stopped paying attention when Wendell Scott retired and the Super Bee went away. If they could stand to race those suckers on the beach again, THEN I'd watch...
I admire NASCAR marketing, but the product? Blah. Besides, there's a contractual corporate agreement 'tween REAL and the NASCAR oganization. REAL wasn't chosen 'kuz it's a good technical solution, it's a business partnership. I don't think Mac users carry much market clout in that circle (no pun intended). --But good luck. At the very least, maybe you'll get a few more people P.O.-ed at REAL.
Also, I find Euro Rally Racing more bad-smurf anyway.
