Best space combat games available for Mac
I've been looking around for a good space combat game for Mac. The PC market is full of um, and I've got a couple for my PC. What space combat games are available for Macs, and what are they like.
Space combat games with the ability to buy and upgrade your ships, Mercinary/Pirate stuff are good.

Escape Velocity might be what you're looking for. Go here: www.ambrosiasw.com/games and click on the link for EV:Nova. There are two prequels too if you are running MacOS 9 or earlier. I don't know how they perform in Classic though.

Escape Velocity might be what you're looking for. Go here: www.ambrosiasw.com/games and click on the link for EV:Nova. There are two prequels too if you are running MacOS 9 or earlier. I don't know how they perform in Classic though.
I knew someone'd point out EV for me! 
Really, EV's the best. Get all off the games, the first 2 work poyfect in Classic.

yeah i've played the 3 ev games... ev nova rocks. But i was kinda asking about 3d first person flight sims, like freespace and descent

I don't think any new ones exist.
I think that Ambrosia is working on one though. Just search their forums for Ragnarock (I know this game is dead but it was used to new screenshots of the new game).

Freespace was never made for Mac (I don't think), and "freespace and descent" is a bit redundant since freespace is actually Descent: Freespace. [/nitpicking]

Here's one: Combine MMO games with 1st person 3d goodness, shake, make a beta, and you get vendetta. head over to http://vendetta.guildsoftware.com I play a lot because there's accually a good community, and it's always changing, highly recommened.

Actually, just randomly found an open source project called VegaStrike:

From the look of the site, it seems to be a 3D perspective escape velocity...
JUST finished the download (almost 95 megs!!! -- use something that supports resume) and opened it up for about 30 seconds before reading the manual, just to make sure my megar system could support it...and it looks pretty sweet.
I wonder if other dogs think poodles are members of a weird religious cult?

I hope this game is good!
I have vendetta, and if you can learn it, it is quite fun, but I can see how it can get boring after a while. I would like to see some EV elements in it too.

X-Wing or TIE Fighter always seemed like the best to me. Very complicated gameplay but you don't go off trading spices or other useless crap. Tho the graphics are way outdated on these two gems.

And neither of them run in Classic.

Man there hasnt been any really good space flight sims for Mac the last few years. Heck there hasnt even been any so-so space flight sims either 
. Nothing new at all cause no ones making anything . But if you can find them heres some sweet ones (hint: if you can find them):
-X-Wing
-Tie Fighter
-Wing Commander IV
Out of those 3 the one with the better graphics (only cause they show texturing) is Wing Commander IV. Really if you want flight sims set in space, PC is all there is . Or get a Dreamcast and get Starlancer . The DC version of Starlancer does not have the M$ name on it cause it was made right before M$ bought them out 
. Boy I sure do love Starlancer. When I first played the DC demo I couldnt put it down for days (graphics in the demo are better sadly ). Mmmmm, thinkin about it right now just makes me want to go play it again .

Whatever happened to Parsec? A free, cross-platform (Mac, PC, Linux) multiplayer 3D space combat free-for-all. With rather nice graphics, I might add.
They do have a playable LAN test available... hopefully the final version is on the horizon and they haven't abandoned the project.

I dunno...when an open source project doesn't see a new release for 14 months, i tend to think of it as dead...

i love terminus, i got it for $5 from electronics boutique.....its an older game, but SO great...... although it takes a while to figure out how to play
good graphics, good physcs, funness, but big learning curve
