I'd like to share at this time that Mac user arragont elitism is wearing very, very thin.
Then stop coming to these forums. It shouldn't be a very hard concept to grasp.

Re: Maximum PC goes ga-ga over Alienware monstrosity...PREDATOR
I do not see the point of putting doors over ports.
The iMacs had port doors for an amazing two revisions. We haven't see doors since.
Doors are basically just asking to get snapped off.
Otherwise, it looks okay. (A little like the just put green plastic around a metal box, but it is its own style I guess.)
Well Apple has been producing cases for a long time. Alienware just got started. They probably haven't learned all the little lessons that Apple has because they haven't been at it as long.
It will be interesting to see if the doors stay with the design as time goes on.
As far as custom case designs go I'll chime in and say that I do feel that Apple blazed that trail. I can't think of any totally original case designs I've seen that Apple didn't take a crack at first.
For some odd reason the majority of people don't seem to care until someone other than apples does it. Reminds me of the Newton kinda, first of its kind and arguably the best but more people know what a Palm Pilot is than a Newton. Strange.

My bro's Compaq had a door and he ended up snapping it off on purpose because it was so annoying.

I'm just wondering if any of you people were actually suprised?
C'mon, this is to appeal to a group of kids who think that a case window and a neon light makes them

I never understood the doors either. If you make a good case design it doesn't need enormous doors to hide things. It's a hack. Like instead of taking the time to figure out how to make it look good they just slap a cover over it.

I don't see anything wrong with it. Maybe the color, but that's about it. I think it has a sort of cool art-deco look (again, if you look beyond the green color).
I agree... beyond the aweful color, it does have the potential to look fairly good. I picture it without those two big black vent-like things on the sides, and in a light gray color.... now that would look pretty sweet.

Nah...leave the vents. They're cool.
Here are a couple of examples of trains I'm talking about. Kinda neat.
This one's a little big.
Aw, hell. Just look for yourself here.

That alien predator is fugly corny. It's like if Disney made a system they'd do mickey's head. This thing looks like that. Just an eye short of warranting a Mattel/Barbie logo.
Can't wait to see the matching keyboard/mouse though.

I should point out that there are four USB ports on the front of the machine, an excellent idea that Apple has yet to adopt in any of its machines.

...
The vents and that kool alien head mascot add an extra 800 MHz of power to that thing, easy.
Those were excellent train pix, classic design. The alienware box reminds me much more of something straight from the early 1970s; say, a Hot Wheels car, or better still, something from George Barris, King of the Kustomizers. Bet that's where the influence was drawn.
I'd guess that the industrial designers of the past would've been ashamed to pinch off a computer that ugly.

Re: Maximum PC goes ga-ga over Alienware monstrosity...PREDATOR
Perhaps. I see too much "surface excitement" in that, whereas the computer (and trains) have a sleekness to them. Barris did outrageous cars for the sake of being outrageous. Art deco was an attempt to fuse design and function, to make the trains streamlined for better efficiency, but also make them look good. It was the first real attempt at industrial design.
To be honest, I doubt the designers were influenced by anything of the sort. I think they were just trying to make a computer that looked like an alien head. Luckily, they wound up with something much cooler looking.

And I find it hilarious that at my one mentioning of your arragance and elitism, you seem to immeaditly go out of your way to prove it. GJ, tards.
