Photoshop 7.0.1 & CS issues in 10.3

At work I'm working on an eMac which I recently upgraded to 10.3. Now all of a sudden Photoshop has been acting up lately!

I work in both Classic and OS X, working mainly in Quark. Now when I click on the Photoshop icon, to get back to Photoshop, all of a sudden I start seeing the spinning beachball! So I force quit. And start up Photoshop. But then this is what drives me crazy: I see that Photoshop is loading the components. But then I see the word "Initializing....." along with spinning beach ball! Sometimes this takes about 2-3 minutes. So fed up I restart the computer.

So I ask my co-worker who supposed to be a no-at-all of computers and he has no clue! I asked my bosses partner who is also a graphic designer and he told me to just restart it. This never happened before I upgraded from 10.2.

Had I known, I would left well enough. But..I wanted to try Panther to see what it was like.

And I'm not sure if more memory is needed, but I believe 384 MB of RAM is in the computer. So I kept begging my co-worker who is also the pre-press/graphic artist to order more RAM. But he won't budge!!!

Can't remember. I'm using Adobe TypeManager and my co-worker had delete the preferences or somthing. And I had to re-install some fonts. But that didn't work! But I think I have about 50-60. And some of the fonts that i don't use are de-activated.

Delcia80 this post is not making any sense.

take a deep breath and help us help you. looking at a font problem is a good idea. another good idea is to not "restart" your computer when you get the beach ball for a few minutes.

So what am I going to do?? I have business cards and postcards to send proofs of to clients via e-mail, and this thing is waisting my time. And the client's time in viewing there cards. I have no choice to but to manually push the button to restart the computer.

Re: Photoshop 7.0.1 & CS issues in 10.3

1) in your 1st post you mention that the rig has 384MB RAM but your sig says 768MB RAM.
i would not even fire up PS or QX with less than 512MB RAM

2) in your 1st post you mention something about Panther, yet your sig says 10.2.8
which OS are you running? Panther does not include the "Classic" environment.

3) you say that you are running ATM in Classic mode.
i don't get it, ATM works for QX4 if you are booted in OS9, but you cannot manage fonts in OSX using ATM running in Classic mode.

4) you say that you have PS7 & CS installed, but you don't run them at the same time.
why do you still have PS7 even on there if you have CS?

5) you should periodically purge your PS Image Browser cache from a drop-down window within the Image Browser.
File>Browse, then File, Purge Entire Cache

6) have you deleted your PS preferences from ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop...?

7) does this only happen when you go from Classic mode using QX4 and then double-click on the PS icon?
why not modify your workflow and see if you can make the problems go away. maybe quit QX4 and quit Classic mode, then fire up PS.

8) Fonts. back to fonts. it's probably a font problem. but i cannot even fathom the way you have your system set-up so i don't know what else to say.

9) also, the obligatory, have you Repaired Permissions using an app like Cocktail or Onyx?

10) i don't know what else to say, sorry. i just am a firm believer of NEVER pushing the button the front of your mac to restart it. that cannot do any good at all no matter what. maybe wait like 10 minutes next time. go get some coffee. whatever. see if PS is up when you get back.

that said, i gotta go get a beer. neutral

Re: Photoshop 7.0.1 & CS issues in 10.3

Unresort, the stats in my sig is of my computer from home. In the post, I mentioned the computer is from work.

2) in your 1st post you mention something about Panther, yet your sig says 10.2.8
which OS are you running? Panther does not include the "Classic" environment.

Again, in the post, I am referring to the computer at my job!
I'm running OS 9.2.2. I was asking my co-worker, who "thinks" he knows Macs, about Classic and Panther. I guess so, because another graphic artist is using the samething. But I think she's using 1 GB of RAM!

3) you say that you are running ATM in Classic mode.
i don't get it, ATM works for QX4 if you are booted in OS9, but you cannot manage fonts in OSX using ATM running in Classic mode.

Hey, what can I say. What I saw was already in that computer. And I'm working on QX5.

4) you say that you have PS7 & CS installed, but you don't run them at the same time.
why do you still have PS7 even on there if you have CS?

You tell me! Again, they were already installed in the computer.

6) have you deleted your PS preferences from ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop...?

Nope! Didn't know anything about that either.

7) does this only happen when you go from Classic mode using QX4 and then double-click on the PS icon?
why not modify your workflow and see if you can make the problems go away. maybe quit QX4 and quit Classic mode, then fire up PS.
I've tried that already.  down

8) Fonts. back to fonts. it's probably a font problem. but i cannot even fathom the way you have your system set-up so i don't know what else to say.

Hey, I don't know about that either. Like I said, all those programs were already installed in the computer when i started working on it. There were so many issues with ATM, maybe it's time for them to try SuitCase. I don't know.

9) also, the obligatory, have you Repaired Permissions using an app like Cocktail or Onyx?

I will definatley try that: when I have the time!

maybe wait like 10 minutes next time. go get some coffee. whatever. see if PS is up when you get back.

Oy ve!!! This sucks! Are you sure it's not a memory thing?
