Just an observation: I really hope that RF2 is better...

Yesterday I tried out Red Faction on my PS2. I wanted to see if it was worth bying the Macversion. I would say NOT. Mediocre graphics, blowing out a wall takes a lot of explosives and if I would want to pick up/deactivate a Remote charge like in the awsome DX - that's not posible and finaly it's just caves and caves.

Caves and caves? Well, if you get further into the game it's not... and the PC/Mac version has multiplayer too... with custom maps for:

CTF

DM

Team DM

The online play is much  better than single player, for sure... smile

There is a chance the Mac might not even see RF 2, as I have seen no information anywhere about a Mac version... oh well..

Re: Just an observation: I really hope that RF2 is better...

Ok I can admit I was a little out of ideas about what to actually write. I rented the RF PS2 game to try it out to see if it was worth bying it for my Mac. I've heard a lot both for and against the game so now when I've got a PS2 I thought could see for myself what I felt about it. I did have hight hopes about the graphics so I must say I was a bit disapointed.

That animation when Parker meets with Gryphon was well hilarious to say the least. I don't expect to see RF2 for the Mac but now when I've seen great in game images I'll prepare to try it out on my PS2.

RF2 is getting much better reviews than 1, that's for sure...yesterday I saw a news entry somewhere mentioning it coming to most other platforms in a month or two, but I didn't see Mac. It didn't say no, either, but it seems unsure.

I'd watch IMG or suchlike for specific annuncements.

I found RF to be a great PS2 buy at $20 (greatest hits), but when I played the RF2 demo I hafta say I was dissapointed, only faintly similar to the gameplay of the first game.

Well I think that was the whole idea. Volition promised a lot with the first game but when it eventually came out it didn't actually differ much from any other shooters. Ofcourse yes you could blow a hole in a wall and stuff but it wasn't much of an objective in the game. At least I felt the lack of an objective when I tried it out on my PS2 - I mean even Q2 has a clearer objective.

In RF(one) the Geo-Mod didn't actually play any main role but in RF2 it's supposed to(still haven't tried it). In RF2 you get into the role of "Alias" who's a demolitionsexpert and your job is to blow things up and clear the way for your virtual teammates, of whose health you don't have to bother since they take care of that themselves, very neat I say. PSW gave this game a 9 out of 10 possible points.

Well, I enjoyed the first one. Strapping explosives to people's backs and watching them wet them selves... twisted... Digging a 3mile tunnel just for kicks... blowing away the base of bridge and watching the troops on it fall to their death... its all good.

Not saying it couldn't have been done better though.

Re: Just an observation: I really hope that RF2 is better...

From what I heard, GeoMod is toned down significantly in RF2, since people had an uncanny tendancy to dig themselves into deep holes wink

So now GeoMod is only used in certain points, and you get some sort of warning about it.

Plot is meant to be OK, something about nanotechnology and enhanced warriors or something (Marathon? Halo?) smile

Apparently its a nice sequal, and the graphics are meant to be OK (not the bleeding edge or anything thou). But as for superior to the original? Don't realllly think so (I liked the original!)

Re: Just an observation: I really hope that RF2 is better...

The notice I read mentioned upgraded graphics, altho that might only mean more complex textures. Screens and reviews should tell, but it's apparently due out shortly.

No way it's beating Unreal 2 (or even Splinter Cell, in all probability) onto my HD at full price, tho.

Re: Just an observation: I really hope that RF2 is better...

I've finally tried RF2 and I say it kicks major butt. It wasn't exactly as I had expected from reading the reviews in PSW but it's still more to my likening than RF1. For those who like it it's still posible to stick charges to enemies. It's not posible to blow a hole in every wall though but you get to drive a twolegged machine that looks like a big bird with machineguns. Heavy weapons, great architecture - to destroy and lots and lots of enemies to gun down. Since I'm not very used to play firstpersonshooters with the console handcontrole though I've only played it on Easy-setting.

I'll definately play it again
