Joining team Macaddict
I thought when I moved over from seti classic to boinc that I had done the switch correctly and I would be put on team macaddict.
Tunrs out since late June I've been chugging along on no team. Is there any way to get joined back up with Team Macaddict even though my account is made already?
Thanks,
Eric

Re: Joining team Macaddict
Well, The old Team Macaddict & the new BOINC team are two seperate entities, near as I can tell. I didn't create either one, mind you.
If someone can tell you which of the BOINC team "Mac Addict"s is the right one (there are three...) then all you have to do is go to their link on the SETI@home BOINC pages and click "join."
Can anybody else fill in the blanks here? There was a sticky in here with the vitals before the grand wipe of last November, but... well, yeah.

Thank you. My 9568.73 points have joined up.
Thankfully I"m starting to get credit again since I've rebuilt my Windows computer. I"ve got an AMD64 3200+ that blazes through them compared compared to my poor iMac. Maybe I should save some cash and get a mac mini until I graduate and can afford a pro computer.

Re: Joining team Macaddict
ericmw,
I saw you pop up on the stats with a relatively high number of credits for a new guy. Now I know why. Hey, I guess I can't complain that you flew right by me if it helps Team MacAddict!
And don't forget there are other BOINC projects too. SETI isn't down all that often, but even they recommend supporting other projects in order to keep BOINC occupied with something to do if it is down. Predictor is a good one with short WUs. You could set BOINC to 95:5 for SETI:Predictor and still be of help to Predictor.

- LHC will likely never have a Mac client. You could put a few PCs on it I guess. It has a lot of connectivity and WU availability issues.
- CPDN is a good one with a nice screensaver. However, it takes a major CPU commitment with WUs of at least a couple weeks on a Dual 2.5 GHz G5 and two months on a Dual 1.0 GHz G4 (each running 24/7). Not for the casual BOINCer!
- Einstein should be good once it is made public. I hear the data files that accompany the WUs are huge monsters.
And BTW, it's not your fault for thinking you were already on the team. SETI made it pretty clear that if you sign up on BOINC with your old email address from SETI Classic, then they'll automatically put you on the old team.

Re: Joining team Macaddict
I have actually been crunching on boinc since it first got out in the summer. I kept crunching on my AMD 2500+ barton and my iMac until around Thanksgiving when my windows computer decided to be...well a windows machine and go down for the count. If I left them on 24/7 I could get through 8-13 WUs a day I think.
I was under the assumption I was already on team Macaddict and it wasn't until I recently began to wonder how my stats were doing. I found a good stats site and saw that I wasn't on a team! I knew I had to correct that. so here I am now.
its good to be back.

It's good to have you back.
For anyone out there curious about the Classic vs BOINC SETI membership, BOINC has 98 active users compared to a total of 5972 on Classic. Of course, there were multiple accounts and other reasons for Classic to be so high, but I know of at least one Team MacAddict member that was never in Classic at all.
Eric, I don't want to make you disappointed or anything like that, but did you know that credits are not transferred across teams? IOW, You have great personal stats now, but have only just now started to contribute to Team MacAddict! Your other credits stay "teamless." I made that mistake before with a different BOINC project. Moral of the story... Get your Mac-loving friends to join Team MacAddict now rather than later!
