I want to buy a dual 867 but all this talk of the PowerPC 970 being released somewhat soon scares me. I know that no one knows for sure but does anybody have any good guesses? When is the nearest possible time Apple will update the PowerMac line? I just don't want to be like the people who spent tons of cash on 604e based 9600s right before the G3 came out.

i have a dual 867, and i switched from a athlon 2000+.

its a geat computer, and if you need a computer now, i would get it. the thing is, the 970s are slated to come out at th end of the year. so, they may styill have one more upgrade, but other than that...

At some point you just have to jump in and buy-you could be waiting your whole life for "the next big thing" to come out. I have the dual 867-great machine for the price-coming up from my PM8500/G3 that I bought and upgraded just as the G4's were first introduced because at the time all my peripherals were scsi based.

sans upgrades, i got my Dual 867 (or as i ghettoly refer to as the dual nines) for 1350.

That's great! Not only can I get a better machine for less money but I can rest easy that Apple won't update the line next week. I think I'm going for the dual 1.25 ghz on the Education Store. It's going to be a HUGE upgrade from my lil' ol 300mhz iBook that I've been using.

you can get the computer for much cheaper if you pay apple 100 dollars to become a dev
