Can't copy/paste, drag & drop, no services submenu in 10

I upgraded to 10.2 on Friday. Since then, I can't copy and paste items (cut and copy commands show up, but never the paste command), can't drag and drop items except in the Finder (can't modify toolbars, move bookmarks in Safari, add songs to iTunes playlists, etc

Did you do a clean install after the removal of Ultralingua?

Try and make a new user and see if the same problems exist there. If it does, another reinstall may be your only hope. If it doesn't, the problem is linked to your user, and you can either delete your user, or do a clean install, just don't restore your old user folder after the clean install - only take the items you need:

Pictures
Movies

I had the same problem. and clean install doesn't really help.
it is a strange question. but do you use Omniweb? if yrs remove all the files and preferences of omniweb. it did help me and I know about some others that it did.

and upgrade to the latest os (10.2.3)/

hope that it will help.

Open Disk Utility and run repair permissions.

if this doesn't work you might try booting into single user mode (hold Cmd-S on startup) and run:
/sbin/fsck -fy
until it says no errors were found.
then continue with booting by:
logout

Re: Can't copy/paste, drag & drop, no services submenu in 10

I have had some odd problems like those described. If Disk Utility/Repair Permissions, Dragster, or Jaguar Cache Cleaner did not fix the problem then creating a new user has usually fixed things up. The only time a new user account didn't work was if I had experienced a fink explosion or if Open Office wet its pants. A reinstall was the only way to repair that damage.

Basically, OS X software has not caused enough damage on my system to require a full reinstall. (except for Internet Explorer, of course - 100% destruction rate for that little gem) Generally, only UNIX/X11 stuff that messes with the underlying Darwin stuff has done the sort of damage which require a reinstall.

This is a problem cause by corrupt caches. There is a utility on VersionTracker, called Cache Cleaner or something.

pbs is probably the culprit. I deliberately killed it one time just to see what it does. I lost all cut n paste and drag n drop as a result. A reboot may fix the problem. If not try this:

run top to get the pid for pbs, then

"sudo kill -9 <pid for pbs>", then

check the permissions on /System/Library/CoreServices/pbs. They should be

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 61264 Jan 25 22:18 pbs

Once that checks out then restart pbs:

"sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/pbs"

Re: Can't copy/paste, drag & drop, no services submenu in 10

All Services, Drag & drop and copy paste are back! I checked my console log, and it showed that the application MediaEdit was giving pbs some trouble, so i deleted it, and all files (prefs and such) that went to it (Thanks to Andrew Napper from the apple Support forums for pointing this out). I also deleted my /Library/Preferences folder to be on the safe side, then i restarted. Everything is back! Thanks everyone who helped!
