Quartz Extreme test?
I just got a Radeon 9000 for my old AGP G4-400, it works great. I can run games like Black&White at higher rez and high settings all around.
But I'm wondering: how can I see that Quartz Extreme is running? I can't see a noticeable speed-up in the basic functions of the computer, but maybe I'm not trying the right things. Does it speed up QuickTime or other multimedia functions?
The old video card was an ATI RagePro 128, which did NOT do Quartz Extreme.
Thanks in advance for any comments.

Re: Quartz Extreme test?
Perhaps the best test for your machine would be to set System Preferences to change the desktop picture every 5 seconds. If it is using QE, you'll barely notice it but if it's not, your G4 -400 will definitely feel it.

Re: Quartz Extreme test?
Thanks, that works! I used to have my desktop set to change every hour, and the machine would churn a bit whenever the image changed. Now it just switches with no apparent effort.

the simplest test to see if quartz is running is to look at
your cursor....your arrow.....does it have a drop shadow?
if yes then its running extreme.

There ya go. I did it on my beige just for fun and the app crashed. It was like a big slap in the face...

Bzzzzz! Wrong answer! The shadow has nothing to do with Quartz Extreme. I have a PCI Radeon in a Beige G3 with no quartz extreme and the cursor had a shadow. Old dev releases of 10.2 had drop shadows showing on some Rage 128 chipsets.
