Re: Wait! Now There's Too Much Filtering!
technically the email i signed up with is still active, i just forgot the password about 3 years ago.
i can probably find the email password, but then i would actually have to check it, which isn't going to happen.
ummm..... i'll think of something.... the mods can snail mail me a warning if they want.

If we send you an email warning about something and you don't fix it or stop the behavior, it's likely going to lead to being banned. At that point, you can complain all you want about never having recieved the email 'cause you don't check the account or 'cause the account is inactive; we made the reasonable attempt to contact you and you didn't keep your end of the deal. The ban will stand.

Yup, that's the key. Just don't do anything dumb and the email issue won't be an issue
Look at it this way: you've sold as many paintings as Van Gogh—and you have both your ears.

So, any word on when the anglo-saxon words will return?
Suppose someone wants to speak of smurfs smurfing, a la Donnie Darko? The option to turn the filter off might well improve the intelligibility of such discussion...

Oh, come on...smurfette? You can say bitch on TV and the radio. You can print it in newspapers. We're talking about a female dog here, not some little blue chick who lives in a mushroom.

Yes it is. It's changing it from the inappropriate "pussy" to the more appropriate one that means "cat."

He was referring to when an exclamation point, etc. follows it.
Edit: And, as evidenced by your reply, it isn't caught if you put it within quotes. Apparently wildcards are needed.

No, it's just that that isn't filtered. I don't think it should be; I'm not entering it.

Re: Wait! Now There's Too Much Filtering!
Oh, I thought it was supposed to be filtered. I saw in another thread a quote with smittenedkitten in it and assumed the filters were causing it, then I saw this thread.
Edit: it was Oatmeal's post in this thread: http://www.macaddict.com/forums/topic/51635 However I just noticed that smittenedkitten was an IM handle when I actually looked at the article. I apparently glanced over the first time they mentioned it, so when I came across the second time they used it ("...not the smittenedkitten they were looking for...") it didn't make much sense so I thought it was the filters at work. Never mind.
