The only reason I caught the new releases was because I was in a class and had nothing to do. So I decided to go to the Apple website. And sure enough, there they were.

Yeah, but when did they come out, this is highly unusual for Apple to release something like this so soon after MWSF...You would of thought they would of introduced this at MWSF don't you?
Even the price drops, and an introduction of a new LCD size???
Although everyone would of said "great another rev" for the machine...nearly $2000 off the top of the line LCD, and a new 20" LCD that cost as much as my two 15" LCDs...I'd say that's sweet.

They do this all the time, it's not a big issue.
I know, but usually on small things, like $500 price drops on monitors, computers, etc... not a complete motherboard upgrade, and speed bump-up, as well as a new Monitor, and a huge price-cut on the top of the line LCD.

Complete motherboard upgrade? All I saw is DDR333 with the same old memory hack. The speed-bump was not spectacular and their low end machine is not a dual processor now, which I believe is a mistake. They wouldn't want to show this measly upgrade at MWSF, not when their 'power'Mac line is having the lowest sales out of any of their consumer lineups. Everyone, including me, is waiting for the 970!
And begin......

The motherboard had to be revamped to deal with the Firewire 800, the way it was designed before, it could not handle a 400Mb throuput increase on the firewire end alone...
The low end G4 is a 1Ghz, probably a typo... because Apple I thought said all their machines are to be a dual from this point on...have to find out...
To deal with Bluetooth, is another things, it needed to be updated motherboard wise to handle that technology as well... the 200 Mhz increase, is substantial since you have to think the chip is how old now?
But still, $1500 off of the 23" LCD, and a new 20" LCD, like that wouldn't of been something to state at MWSF?
BTW, I would say expect the new chip probably by august, or at least near it... because that is when school starts, and when as far as I know, some of the PC competiton will be talking about releasing their versions (around the later 1/2 of this year)

no, its not a typo, ont he apple site it even says powermacs starting at blah, and dual processor starting at blah.
my dual 867 should still be faster than the single proc 1000.

Re: Is it me or did apple sqeek in a new system.
It's the same motherboard, believe me. Apple is screwed in that department until the IBM 970 chip starts going into production to put in their new systems later this year.
Apple is basically squeezing out the last few drops of juice it can for the G4 before they ditch it in the PowerMac line. This is a great upgrade though, considering the price cuts across the board, and the updated specs. The new PowerMacs are still starved for bandwidth unfortunately.
I cant wait till the 2nd half of this year... the PowerMac 970 is going to be huge!
As far as the entry level PM, yes, it is indeed a single 1Ghz system. With the 15" and 17" PowerBooks using the 1Ghz chips, and hopefully the iMac (keep your eyes peeled... soon) as well, the 1Ghz chip might be in short supply after all, so they are resorting to single CPU configurations.
