Trouble sending Word attachments to PC users

My PC friends are telling me that the attachments come to them as mime files that they can't open. I end up having to cut and paste the text into my emails. This guy at my local Apple store is telling me that my ISP is compressing the attachment since I'm not, but that doesn't seem to make sense. Any ideas?

Re: Trouble sending Word attachments to PC users

Compress the files before sending.  Then there should be no troublums.

Then your PC friends can whine about what POS Macs are if they can't send a simple Word doc. (It's probably the PC's fault, and not your ISP)

Make sure you compress it as a Zip file, as most PC users don't have Stuffit Expander (.sit file).

Can I set up Mail to do this automatically? I like being able to drag and drop. F-ing PC users! Why must they make everything so difficult?

Re: Trouble sending Word attachments to PC users

I experimented around my office and found that encoding the attachment as AppleDouble("MIME") (in Eudora terms) gives me almost complete success with sending attachment to anyone and any ISP.  I have occasional problems (1 in a 100) with incoming attachments through Eudora.

Use Entourage, instead of the Apple Mail program, when sending attachements to Win users.

Are your friends using AOL?  Whenever I try to send an image to anyone on AOL the get .mime files and can't open them up.

I don't know why the AOL does this.  Ugh.

You know, I think that might be it. But they all tell me they only have the problem when they get attachments from Mac users.
