AirTunes
Has anyone bought AirTunes? Has anyone had any issues with it? Any music quality loss during the transmission?
I have been thinking about buying one so I can play music from my bedroom (where our pc is) to the living room surround sound system.
Any opinions on this product?

You mean the Airport Express?
I have one extending my Airport Extreme network, and it's also connected to my stereo. It works great, and seamlessly integrates with my network. The sound quality is perfect. I recommend this product.

Re: AirTunes
My Brother has an Airport Express, which includes the airtunes feature. Im not a huge audiophile, so I really cant tell if there is any degredation in the smallest sense or not, but the music sounded just as good as usual to me.
My only complaint with the Airport Express is that it when our home phone rings (its a high power cordlesscordless), it tends to make the airport signal drop completley to all computers using it, as the signals seem to clash with each other.
Im tempted to pick one up for the airtunes, and the range extension it offers. Keep in mind iTunes is the ONLY software that works with airtunes. No system sounds, or anything else will be played through.

Rogue Amoeba is about to release Slipstream, which will allow you to play any sound source through your Airport Express. Should be good for piping streaming media to your stereo.
Keep in mind that there is a several-second delay, so this still would not be good for applications that require audio and video to be synchronized.

I just installed an identical set up for a customer, I am in complete agreement with Vokbain.

Re: AirTunes
I just bought an airport express to stream airtunes to my stereo and have had nothing but problems. The music cuts in and out all the time. I have found other people with this problem. I was told that switching the network to 802.11g only would fix the problem but it did not for me. The only other sugestion I have found was reimporting all my music to itunes at a much lower quality so it was less of a strain on the wireless setwork to send it but I am not willing to put in the time to do that (and what I am I supposed to do about music bought at the apple Music Store?).

How far away is your Airport Express from your primary wireless hub?

I installed my set-up which included an Airport Extreme and an Airport Express. The first day I ran it, it ran suberbly. It was a thing of audio beauty.
Then "tomorrow" came. For some reason songs would play and then stop... and then pick up where they stopped. Since I had menu meters installed I could see that what was happening: My computer would send a "ton of information" to the Airport Express and then not send any information.
There is a document at the Apple support about this. I found it by accident.
Basically, you need to make sure Airtunes 4.1 is installed and do NOT set up WDS to extend your coverage. Set up your Airport Express as a client.
All better now. It's been a week of music without any more problems.
