No offense intended - you just caught me in a bad mood, so please accept my apologies on this one. Too often (in my other gaming addiction) I see people arguing against things they simply do not understand and I made the assumption that you were one such creature. This reply says otherwise. Sorry about that. As a fellow "old gamer" (dating back to the old TS-1000 days), I can appreciate that you took offense to my comment. That was not the intent. Sorry.

Not really the intention or the motivation but your point is taken. Rather than trying to call people names, I was just trying (too hard, apparently) to make a point and an assumption (a faulty one) slipped in there inadvertantly.
I will, however, defend my* developers with my last dying breath. Nothing bothers me more than people who don't show appreciation where it's due and assume that they know more than the skilled professionals. Not because they're celebrities, simply because it's rude.
This was clearly not the case this time. My mistake.

People have already suggested how to make KOTOR more playable, albeit not directly. I'll spell it out for you. The problem is your video card. By switching to a different video card (Geforce series was mentioned), the problem will go away.
Well, the problem should be fixed with the latest patch:

Re: KOTOR worst port job ever?
OK at best, tho, probably. You're at min spec for both CPU and videocard, and it's a demanding game.
The original code was written partly with Xbox in mind, and the video chip in that has the two vertex shader units per pipeline of the GeForce 4- it's just better on this type of code.

You kiddies got it easy nowadays. Back when I first started kicking space-alien butts, we didn't have them new-fangled 100 ton mechs with laser-guided missles, and no turbo plasma rifles, and all that super-high-tech sissy-boy junk. We had the good stuff. Pistols, shotguns, some grenades and a good old fashioned metal rod for in-your-face head bashing. Yeah!

Re: KOTOR worst port job ever?
Much respect to Aspyr and Brad Oliver, but I must agree with DK partially, in that none of the slowdowns I'm experiencing have anything to do with skeletal animations. They all started in the empty fields of Dantooine south of the Jedi enclave, where there are no animated models other than my own party, just dirt and rocks. In fact, when other characters or monsters are present the game gets more playable.
What happens is that whatever character is "leader" will eventually appear to freeze, showing up a few seconds later 100s of yards ahead, stuck to a wall. All I can do is switch to another character and hope I can guide them in the right direction again whilst the others follow. Sometimes I simply can't get anybody in the party to face the direction I wish to move.
This is disappointing, because the whole of Tarsis worked flawlessly, with only normal framerate slowdowns in the busiest streets. I also experienced the first graphical glitches on Dantooine: lighting aberrations in the same fields I get stuck in, and also Zhar is missing half his polys when viewed in the training room at certain angles (i.e. triangle head).
I don't mean to sound irate (I'm not, I still love the game), I expect problems in a port of this scale, I'm sure most mac development teams don't have the same paid hours to quell bugs that PC ones do, but their are definitely problems other than the vertex shader one described.
1.42 MHz G4 (mac mini)
512 MB
ATI 9200
OS 10.3.8
KOTOR 1.03c
EDIT: to be honest, I doubt that few, if any of these problems are caused by the mac port, as I have checked the PC boards and many users have had the same exact problems. But PC users have the luxury of changing to older graphic drivers (apparently Catalyst 4.2 worked best for KOTOR) that mac users don't. At least, I don't think they do. Do they?

Re: KOTOR worst port job ever?
I did not experience this issue to this extent the first 2 times through the game. But this time through Dantooine is unplayable. I am playing on a PowerBook 15" 1.25 GHz with a Radeon Mobility 9600. ATi's site <http://www.ati.com/products/mobilityradeon9600/features.html> claims that the 9600 supports vertex and pixel shaders, do my card should be doing fine. And it DID fine the first 2 times through.
Could an OS update modified video card drivers or OpenGL so that there is now an incompatibility?
10.3.8 enhancements:
* Improves the performance of Blizzard World of Warcraft's "Full Screen Glow" video feature.
* Improves DVD Player compatibility when playing a movie (using certain ATI Radeon cards) to an external widescreen TV with a 16:9 aspect ratio.
And the video card kexts are updated if you look at the list of files that the update modifies.

Re: KOTOR worst port job ever?
Yes, the 9600 should handle everything in this game easily. It most likely is a problem with the latest drivers. For me the problem only occurs on two Dantooine maps: Grove and Maltete Grounds (sp?) which can only be navigated through repeated trial and error by switching characters.
