Re: Which one is Better?
I also like the white compared to the other, which IMHO, seems a little distracting. You could look into perhaps using a different background color besides white like a light blue or grey... Besides the color, I really like the layout. How'd you write it?

Re: Which one is Better?
I agree the no background is better. The background is too dark and interferes with readability and also competes for attention of the main information. Perhaps "fading" it by changing it opacity in Photshop or similar app, or using light blue color rather than white will get the water impression you are after.

The background makes it look way too tacky.

Re: Which one is Better?
I think it's better without, but it looks wanting. What if you lighten up the background so that it's less intrusive but still leaves a little texture?

Re: Which one is Better?
If you are attached to the texture, try this. But I also suggest if you are going to use a texture, dont make the logo transparent. The fish will get lost, and the text will look busy.
well, I was going to attach it, but I will email it instead.. not that it is anythign special. I just realized angelfire will block it, and I dont have access to my idisk here.

Re: Which one is Better?
Two more questions???
I am still quite new to the web design, and want to know now if my choice of colors on the white background layout is good. Furthermore I need to find another color to add so the entire page isn't white. If anybody has any color ideas please let me know. Also I was concerned about the links on the navigation bar being to close to each other. Would this affect some users from being able to read it sense they are basically in the same color family. I think the site looks nice like this unless their is a usability problem. I don't really like the background either but it matches and is very tempting. I will stick without it though. If you have a color idea please let me know because I am not very good at things like this.
What do you think about putting the table properties in a stylesheet for easy updates do all web browsers support this yet? Also I was thinking about adding a banner to replace the logo. The banner would have a appropriate width despite it being an aquarium scene. What is everyones take on this?
I guess my main question on the stylesheet is if it is ok to start using the CSS2 code for tables in it. I know CSS1 didnt have to many ways of defining styles for tables.
Thanks for answering to me so far, and i look forward to your responces. This forum has been a big help which is why the mac community owns.

Re: Which one is Better?
To answer the question on how i wrote it kind of makes me laugh at myself. I made a few mistakes at first. IN other words i should of planned things out first because after 1 week of dev i ended up trashing everything and started to plan it out. It worked out good becauuse then all i had to do is slave a way using as much artistic ability as i possibly had (which isnt much.) to get colors to match. This took awhile but it payed off. Some people think i should of used darker colors but i kind of like it. I learned from a designer book that if you got a logo pick colors from the logo that are on the web safe color pallete, and use them in the desing. This way everything matches. I used CSS to do most of the formating. CSS though is not ready for layout yet. So as a solution i used a very simple table with a column trick to get the appropriate spacing. I think it worked out pretty good. Now it just needs one more thing to jaz it up. As i said previously I need some color ideas because im stumped. Should i change the background outside the table, and the one in the table in the content area?

Re: Which one is Better?
Well I forgot to add the site design I picked. I agree the background was to much so here is the design choosen. The white but I added some better margins to the right. Not that noticeable...
