Is this possible?
Hello, I posted this topic on the troubleshooting board, but I figured a lot more people would see it on this board. But anyway, I have an iBook w/ OSX and was wondering if it is possible to put a password on a folder. Any help would be great.
Thanks,

Re: Is this possible?
I haven't looked into this myself. I don't think you can password protect a folder, but you can do the next best thing: create a password protected disk image. Here are the steps:
1. Open Disk Copy (in the Utilities folder)
2. In the File menu, go to New>Blank Image
3. Choose the file name, the volume name, and the size you want it to be
4. At the bottom, for Encryption, choose AES-128
5. Create the image. When it begins mounting, it will ask you for the password you want to use. The image will only mount after it's given the right password. You should be able to move files in and out of your disk image at will.
Hope this helps out!

Also, you could just log out when you're away from your computer... this saves your settings and folders and I believe is fairly secure.

Yea, its Uber secure. So just move that folder into your home directory somewhere and make an alias back to where the original was if you really want to.

IN OS9 you could encrypt folders, i don;t know that X has this capability built in but it should, if not you can get third party software to do it.
