OS 10.3.8. Anybody NOT having problems?

I keep reading all these horror stories on the forum about 10.3.8.  Has anybody put it on their machine and had it all go smoothly?

Re: OS 10.3.8. Anybody NOT having problems?

10.3.8 is fine here. No speedups, no slowdowns, no runaway log files, no oddball video issues, all my peripherals work. Everything works as it did with 10.3.7, as it did with 10.3.6, and so forth.

Re: OS 10.3.8. Anybody NOT having problems?

G4 400MHz, 960MB RAM, 40Gig 20Gig and DVD ROM internal, 60Gig and fast CD burner FW externals here.

up from 10.3.7 without any problems.

make sure your target drive is in good shape first. boot into single user mode and /sbin/fsck -fy until it reports no errors. reboot and run disk utility's repair permissions. do the update. to be on the safe side, run repair permissions afterward too.

apple recommends that if you have external firewire hard drives, power them down and disconnect them before updating.

that should do it.

i can personally tell you that the 7 or so old G4s i've updated have had no problems with this update, and the couple of iMac G4s, 1 iMac G5, a few assorted mirror G4s, and a few aluminum powerbooks have done well.

what kind of machine do you want to update? there is a problem with some G5 towers wherein the fans will kick into hyperdrive with the slightest provocation.
i think i read that if you switch the processor to run at "highest" it will stop that fan noise.

Nothing changed for good, or bad from 10.3.7 here.

Re: OS 10.3.8. Anybody NOT having problems?

Absolutely fine on several Macs of varying types.

The only issue I have read about was one mouse driver; Macally's fault not 10.3.8's. meh.

Thanks for the updates.  I have a G5 iMac. Can I just use Software Update or should I take extra precautions?

Re: OS 10.3.8. Anybody NOT having problems?

Zero problems with 10.3.8 on any of my Macs. I used the combo updater on the desktops and the Software Update version on the iBook.

G4 dual 1.25 Ghz MDD  1.5 GB, OS X 10.4.5
G4/733 Quicksilver 1.3 GB, OS X 10.4.5

Re: OS 10.3.8. Anybody NOT having problems?

Works very well for us here. I used the combo updator on two aluminium Powerbooks and a lampstand iMac. Did have a kernel panic sometime last week, but no problem since then.

it's your call.

better safe than sorry, or fly without a net.

the trouble is, some folks fly without a net and then wind up here claiming the last update ate their dog. rather than excepting they may have needed to occasionally make sure their drives are up to snuff, they piss and moan that apple wrecked their machine.

if you should decide to fly without a net and something goes wrong, you can usually get out of the problem by running the suggested routines above, post install.

if the routines don't get you rolling again, then by all means, use these forums. we're generally wink glad to help. smile

just off the top of my head, is/was your clock set correctly?

other than that, i can only suggest a call to the Quicken support folk.
('course google, or the quicken web site, might have the answer as well.)
