Doom3 shown at Austin store, help
I heard that Aspyr showed off Doom3 at an Apple store in Austin, Tx, Feb. 18th. I have sent many emails to people I know who went or knew someone who was going. No one has answered my emails. What happened that no Mac gaming site is giving any details.
(1) Was it shown only on the fastest G5 with the fastest video card?
(2) Was it also shown on the fastest G4 for comparision?
(3) Was the game not running well?
(4) Has the game been pushed back and no one is supposed to leak the info yet?
I am concerned since no one has posted any details. To me, silence is not a good thing.

Damn NDAs. I wonder when it'll finally be released.

Re: Doom3 shown at Austin store, help
I actually don't know if there were any NDA's involved or not. Actually, it may have been a mass suicide. No one knows...

Re: Doom3 shown at Austin store, help
Fair enough. Either way, Doom 3 for the Mac is feeling a lot like Half Life.
Remember when Doom 3 was going to be a simultaneous release? And then it came out for PC and they effectively reacted with "oh... yeah... we haven't started it for the Mac yet. Our bad."

It probably ran like crap, and people were so ashamed of the Mac afterwards, they blanked it out from their memories.

Re: Doom3 shown at Austin store, help
Preliminary System Requirements (these may change before the game's release):
...
Video Card (ATI): Radeon 8500 or better
Video Card (NVidia): GeForce FX 5200 or better
***
It's still about OS and API support. On Windows it'll run on a GF4MX, which lacks pixel shaders, sans some effects. However, it won't run on WinMe or earlier; 2k/XP only.
It's coming.

A vortex into hell opened up and swallowed most of the Apple store in Austin. Apparently there were no survivors.

Re: Doom3 shown at Austin store, help
still someone should be posting up what they saw, how it ran, hardware all that good stuff. Like what the hell. I have Dual 1.8GHz G5 with an ATi X800 XT and 4GB of ram just waiting for some action. Help a brotha out with a pre-release-beta-RC2 version or some smurf like that.
This sucks with the whole waiting thing.

Well, the release is probably no more than 2-3 weeks away, so it won't be long.

You have just been quoted buddy.
They could at least give us a demo already.

Demos take work[ers]. A demo is scheduled post-release.

Re: Doom3 shown at Austin store, help
For Macs, public demos are almost always post-release. Consider it a rule of thumb.

Re: Doom3 shown at Austin store, help
While the humor in this thread is enjoyable, it disturbs me that no one who went to the store will answer my questions. Along with my original questions, did the game look great, okay, or pretty good? Were the fans a little dissapointed? Were they happy with what was shown? Since no one will answer, I won't be buying Doom3 unkess there is a demo so I can see for myself how it runs, and the last time I checked with Aspyr (which I admit was a little over 2 weeks ago), they said there was no plans for a demo. So thanks for the humor but this thread (in other ways) proved completely useless.

They ran it on an out of the box Mini. Since there wasn't any KB, mouse or monitor it was tough to gauge the game's performance.

This F'n Blows.
This kind of info should have been posted LIVE as the demo went down. What kind of Mac users went to this thing?
Just a bench mark would be nice man. Just some bench marks.

Re: Doom3 shown at Austin store, help
There is a post similar to this one at IMG forums. Nobody is stepping forward to talk about it at IMG either. Like I implied earlier, they are probably all lashed to smoking stalagmites, wrapped in Imp cocoons, with demon spawn brooding in their chest cavities. If they had anything to say it would probably be "k i l l l l l l m e e e e"
