Re: Cicuit City Washing Sucks

I currently work at Circuit City (In Kansas City) in the entertainment department, which includes TVs, Home Theater, etc. Honestly, everybody at our stores knows what they are talking about. And quite frequently there are 2 or 3 of us helping a single customer if not too many people are in the store. We are all extremely knowledgeable about the products we sell (in my department...the "merch guys", aka, random smurf such as CDs, Phones, adapters, and such, don't know as much and usually ask me for help).

I regularly have customers return 2nd and 3rd times asking for me specifically because they believed they received a good shopping experience and are very happy with what they receieved. Yesturday our 'merch' guy was asked a question about Vonage and had no clue how it worked. So instead of lying to the customer, he came and got me and I politely explained the ups and downs of the service. The customer finally decided to think about it when we came to the issue of 911. I don't make commission, so its better his kids are safe than me get a $60 sale on my record.

Yes, sometimes we will end up talking or somthin, but its usually about an hour or less until closing time and there are very few customers inside. My boss is extremely nice (well, my immediate boss, the higher up guys are ass holes). I help customers get the TV and Home Theater they need without pressuring them, and at the moment I'm selling double what they think I should be per hour.

Just remember guys - we're not just 'stupid circuit city employees' out to rip you off. Sure, I'm not on commision, but I love it when a customer comes in and talks to me about the products, even if they do not buy anything. But when a customer comes in and is rude to me when I ask if he needs help, and then comes up and demands that I price match an item at walmart that is $3 cheaper, I'm not going to be nice back.  Oh, in my store, the Mp3 player (iPod, etc) display is in the very back by the roadshop. Very rarely are we back there just standing, as we have things to do. If you don't find somebody near it, grab somebody else. Find somebody in TVs to unlock it - we can all do it. I love selling customers iPods even if I am not in that department because I have had 2 myself and know they are great devices.

But yeah, there is my rebuttal (spelling? lol).

Oh, and I've been there 5 months - I don't go between McDonalds and Pizza hut delivery. I am 17 and this job pays 9 bucks an hour - better than just about anything else short of lawn mowing (which I do in season).

Do you earn any commission?

Spirit was crushed; now is fading, But I want to help make things right.
Because I can see and I can feel, and you can see and you can feel
So why don't we both either stand up and fight
Or at least together we'll call it a night.

I don't think anyone's saying ALL Circuit City employees are bad.  I was a hard worker and knew my stuff front to back.  As a company, CC is pretty rotten in their business practices.  If you're enjoying what you do right now, good!  Just don't let them take your soul the way they nearly did me....

Off topic:  Has anyone noticed the demise of Sam Goody music stores, and Suncoast video stores?  The last remaining stores in the Boston area appear to have taken a final dirt nap.

Probably because Musicland Corp. is trying to open more Media Play stores, thus negating the need for Suncoast and Sam Goody. They've already gotten rid of their On Cue stores.
