"Respected" media still up to its gushing, flattering ways
Washington Post: "Condoleezza Rice's Commanding Clothes"
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrived at the Wiesbaden Army Airfield on Wednesday dressed all in black. She was wearing a black skirt that hit just above the knee, and it was topped with a black coat that fell to mid-calf. The coat, with its seven gold buttons running down the front and its band collar, called to mind a Marine's dress uniform or the "save humanity" ensemble worn by Keanu Reeves in "The Matrix."
As Rice walked out to greet the troops, the coat blew open in a rather swashbuckling way to reveal the top of a pair of knee-high boots. The boots had a high, slender heel that is not particularly practical. But it is a popular silhouette because it tends to elongate and flatter the leg. In short, the boots are sexy.
Rice boldly eschewed the typical fare chosen by powerful American women on the world stage. She was not wearing a bland suit with a loose-fitting skirt and short boxy jacket with a pair of sensible pumps. She did not cloak her power in photogenic hues, a feminine brooch and a non-threatening aesthetic. Rice looked as though she was prepared to talk tough, knock heads and do a freeze-frame "Matrix" jump kick if necessary. Who wouldn't give her ensemble a double take -- all the while hoping not to rub her the wrong way?
Amazing. Sexist, focusing on the secretary's ensemble; miserable journalism, for gushing so damn much; even more miserable journalism, for focusing on something so utterly irrelevant.
I mean, okay, it was written by a fashion columnist, but still. Kind of puts the whole Jeff Gannon "scandal" into context, doesn't it? I mean, do these guys honestly believe they're better than him?

Wow! I agree completely, in every way, with a ShnickyShnack post... this place has changed... radically!

I'd would have left the boots at home when travelling to Germany. I mean, its almost a short stretch to put a higher collar on that coat, and hand her a crop and...
LOOK OUT !!! IT'S CONDI RICE, She-wolf of the SS.
I can just hear her saying "YOUR PAPERS PLEES!"

As I recall, someone here at MacAddict took issue with VP Cheney's attire a month ago, now you are questioning Secretary of State's attire: Are the leftist liberals turning into fashion police?

Re: "Respected" media still up to its gushing, flattering ways
I'm just in shock that the WaPo, a paragon of the cruel and hurtful liberal media, didn't refer to her as "Conservative Republican Condoleezza Rice" over and over again.
Oh, and as bad as this article is, the writer is still better than Gannon because she's not a plant placed for purposes of perpetuating partisan propaganda. (Feel my mighty alliteration!) This kind of cheese is definitely the lowest form of journalism. Gannon, however, was never a journalist. He was a tool. In fact he was a tool designed to worsen the already poor state of journalism in this country so that Dear Leader's agenda can continue to move forward with as little opposition as possible, which makes him about ten times lower than this WaPo writer.

It's not about fashion, but about dressing appropriately for place and occasion.
One does not wear one's baseball cap (especially if it is turned backwards) while sitting at the dinner table with my ex-girlfriend's Italian/Catholic father. It is a huge sign of disrespect and he will let you know it in some pretty unpleasant ways.
Similarly, one does not dress as if one is on the ski slopes when one is in fact sitting with foreign dignitaries at a memorial inside a concentration camp.

Jeeez. Can't even make a joke about the absurdity without Camp David getting all defensive and whipping out the 'L' word.
And going to Auschwitz dressed like youre in the arctic searching for baby seals to club, while even your own WIFE is dressed with respect for the dead and the horrors that transpired there is inexcusable. You're representing the US when you go to these thing, so YES he, AS VP of the US SHOULD dress in that manner.

It is almost pathetic now... leftist liberals have lost just about everyting else so they are now bottom feeding... reduced to criticizing clothing and attire and being fashion police FOR THOSE IN POWER AND IN CONTROL....
I can't wait to see the Howard Dean spring clothing line...

Can I say "who cares?" I mean really, people are free to wear what they want, even if it is "dissrespectful" attire, and a fashion columnist can write about it if they want to (if fact, I'd prefer that person sticking to reportting on fashion rather than giving a weather report or their opinion on the economy).

Opinions are like a-holes. Everyone has one, and they all smell. Im just waiting for the video where Condi is whipping GW with a riding crop while he has a saddle and bridle and keeps begging for more discipline.
That would go well with those boots.

Nice of you to ignore the response that explains how it's not about "fashion." It's pathetic now. Rightist conservatives have lost all sense of logic reason and fact and are reduced to straw-man arguments in order to defend THOSE IN POWER AND IN CONTROL....
Speaking of which, what does being in power and control have to do with anything? What a retarded smurfing argument.

Al Gore could be the Architect.
Actually, now that I think of it, the characters in those movies are a pretty emotionless bunch. Interesting.
