I Suck at Ghost Recon
Thank the Gods that I only have the Demo, 'cause I really, really suck at Ghost Recon. I haved learned that I have no sense of tactics. All my guys get blown away before I even reload once. And that's on "Recruit" mode.
Am I going too fast? Can anyone suggest some basic tactical ideas that will help me actually accomplish a mission?

Re: I Suck at Ghost Recon
Ghost Recon is a game of finesse, so to speak.
Use your sniper to check the road ahead, if the game gives you time. But on the castle level of the demo, you have time.
Make your team in 3 squads
Squad A - 3 members (riflemen and heavy gunner)
Squad B - 1 member (sniper)
Squad C - 2 members (both demolitions - keep these guys safe, they are mission critical)
This way the sniper can act alone - the way he's gonna be best.
Just remember to not move too quickly - caution will save your life. Use the zoom to check the field. If you find targets, make sure that you see ALL the targets before opening fire - they're pretty accurate at returning fire so make sure that you can move through the targets pretty well before they have a chance to figure out where you are. Waiting until their backs are turned can be a help, they need to figure out where you are first and thier reactions will vary widely - some will run for cover, others will drop, and yet others will look around stupidly.
Use single shot mode whenever possible, it's more accurate - use full auto if you just need to blast your way out of a bad situation.
The best thing I can say is to assess the situation fully before making a move, but don't wait too long. They will hear fire from around the corner and come to investigate the situation, so you can be back-doored if you're not careful.
But go out as your sniper, it's good practice and can let you see how these guys react, when they can and cannot see you, etc...

To get really good at Ghost Recon, (as well as rainbow six and rogue spear) you should try playing multiplayer. Human opponents are much more difficult to beat (usually) and they can teach you tactics. Download GameRanger (

Re: I Suck at Ghost Recon
It also needs a 16 MB video card, and I wouldn't even suggest running it on 16. My G4/400 has a 32 MB Radeon and I have to keep the graphics settings down pretty low. It is fairly fluid, since the game actually doesn't have a lot of special effects, thousands of polygons per scene, or any of that, but it's not great.
A 333 iMac with a 6 MB Rage card will not be able to run Ghost Recon, demo or full version, well enough for it to be enjoyable.

Re: I Suck at Ghost Recon
For the demo, the auto assign units work fine for me. I usually switch my middle rifleman in Alpha team with a support guy (he has an assault rifle). My strategy is to place the sniper lying flat about 20 ft from your starting point in direct line of sight of the front gate. That way, he can get guys wandering near the opening. Then, I place Bravo team in crouching position a bit closer to the gate than the sniper. Finally, I run around the perimeter with Alpha team and pick off as many guys as possible before heading in. Assuming you live, Alpha team should take care of most of the enemies. The hardest part I find is going in the houses. Shooting through walls doesn't work (but it does seem to work for the bad guys). If you can, try getting the people inside the rooms from outside the houses. The easiest way, if you're gun-shy, is to use the rifleman's auxillary weapon (it's like a grenade thing), and shoot it into the room. If you choose to, you can equip the support guy with grenades instead of extra ammo (you do this when choosing your teams) and use that instead. I have a problem throwing grenades so I don't use them. Good thing school is starting for me soon. It's a game to think about once school is over, esp. since the price would come down by then.

Don't give up! Took me about a week before I finally got the hang of it. Basically, just be patient.

Re: I Suck at Ghost Recon
it's not a "run and kill" game. It actually requires skill. you have to use all of your teams, give them commands, set snipers, etc. You have to beware of everything, you have to move slow, you have to hide, you have to anticipate, etc. It's not a "blast ass" game.

Re: I Suck at Ghost Recon
Ugh, I sucked at the demo for Ghost Recon more than I sucked playing the Jedi Knight II demo. I fear my FPS skills are diminishing....
And in a mildly disturbing note, I've been playing Medal of Honor on Gamecube and actually doing really well! I used to think that a FPS could only be played with a keybaord and mouse, but now...

Re: I Suck at Ghost Recon
This is the first FPS i have played since the orginal DOOM and I LOVE it.
IM running a G4 450 with the orginal video card in it and it seems to run pretty good.
I agree with who ever said that it is not a run and shoot game. I have gotten my ass waxed soooo many times running into mean guys with BIG guns! hahahahha
Makes you really respect those guys who *actually* go out and DO this!

Hmm I have a TiBook, 400MHz G4 with a 8MB Rage 128, and the game runs quite well at 800x600 medium settings....

Re: I Suck at Ghost Recon
Thanks to everybody's advice (especially Gipetto & pdot) I have beat the demo several times. I am considering getting the full version. I even went to one of the local media stores, but they only had the Windoze version
I tried a multiplayer game and got my *ss waxed pretty quickly. I have to get rid of my nasty old dial-up. But I live in the country and have to make do.
