Most Useless Warcraft III Unit?

I realize that some of these units can be really powerful in special situations, but for the most part these are the ones I consider the weakest in the game.  It is no coincidence that most of these units are Human or Undead.  Feel free to correct me or add your own choices.

Mercenaries were not considered for this poll.

All of those units are VERY useful...

If you say sorcs are useless you can't be very good with humans. lol

And banshees with possesion can take over any unit. Imagine being able to take over your opponents air units (if you use web on the air units first) or their heavy melee units.

Re: Most Useless Warcraft III Unit?

You just posted the list of just about the strongest units in the game, at least in terms of online play.  Perhaps a sorceress is weak in the single player campaign, but online she is devastating.  Her primary spell, slow, is probably the most whined about spell in the online game because some say it is imbalanced.

Some things that come to mind:

The DH is an incredible solo creeping unit.  Coupled with some moon wells he can fight by himself all through the first night and into the second day by himself, leaving your precious resources to teching if you so desire.  Meta(morphosis) is completely devastating because it makes the DH become a tank which does splash damage (that ignores armor type as well).

The gryphon rider is what gives the human player a huge advantage in a free for all game, or against orcs, because if not properly countered (which orcs can't do very well) it is the king of the sky.  Massing 10 gryphons and two heros is 'good game' for just about anyone.

The witch doctor has replaced the shaman as the orc caster-du-jour.  Players like to set up stasis relays where a player is stunned repeatedly while the orcs cast healing ward on their own troops who destroy the stunned enemy.

Banshees and knights are the weakest units on the list, but not the weakest in the game.  Banshees cast important spells like Curse (enemy misses 25% of the time) and Possession.  Anti-magic shield goes back and forth in usefulness with each Blizzard patch, and right now it's on the useless end of the spectrum, since one dispel (via wand of negation or other dispelling spell) renders it useless.)  Knights are great melee with their high hit points and amazing armor, but can fall prey to possession or air attackers with piercing damage.  These units fall in the middle of the pack in terms of overall usefulness.

As for bad units, try Crypt Fiends (slow tanks who require an extra spell to attack air) and the Death Knight (only really useful towards the beginning, his ultimate skill is horrible) for the undead.  Orcs have headhunters, who need a boost in order to fill the horde's lack of anti-air, and raiders who are good at raiding but only when the enemy base is void of anything that can destroy the raider's fragile self.  Humans have gryocopters, but one blemish doesnt do much to hurt them. smile  Finally Night Elves have some units of questionable worth, but none outright bad.  Druids of the Talon come to mind, only really used to fill the niche anti-air role, when hippogryphs aren't used.

That's what I would have said if I was not so lazy and had free time. (I just realized a lack of free time and being lazy is not a good mixture.)

Re: Most Useless Warcraft III Unit?

My vote goes to the archer(not on list)...they're semi-useful as riders but that's about it. They're too easily DEMOLISHED by footmen with defend on.

But don't worry, new units area a comin smile

Re: Most Useless Warcraft III Unit?

The game's pretty balanced at this point.... but I'd have to say POTM.  She's got a scouting spell (which is O.K.), a good aura, a horrible damage enhancement spell (in my opinion), and starfall (which does about 100 damage before it gets stopped)...
