People who throw around the term "anti-semite" are psychotic.

I don't "throw it around." I recognize it when I see it. And I don't like it.

Well, respect is a two way street. Why should I respect Christians when the moment they find out I'm not one of them they start preaching on how I'm going to hell. If that's not insulting I'm a giant flying radioactive squirel

If that's really true, you're not a very good christian. After all, if it makes god sad, you shouldn't like it either. Unless you're a christian poseur...
However, TriggerXP's got a point here, imo.

'Tis insulting. Won't those evangelicals be surprised if they wind up in hell for insulting you --and you wind up in heaven -- just because you're a tolerant, loving person, of course.
I expect there will be many non-Christians in heaven, despite St. Augustine ("Outside the Church there is no salvation.")
God has to be better than I am, and there are very few people I'd exclude from heaven.

If you believe what the Bible says, you have to accept God into your heart to make it into Heaven. I don't see how that can be done by a non-believer. Or by non-Christian, did you not mean a non-believer? Although, that would make no sense at all. If you're a believer, I don't know how you could possibly choose to go to Hell.

debbie; Sounds like you'd be right at home at a Unitarian Universalist church.
And coming from me that's meant in a good way.
re; ChronoTrigger. You are dead on. nonbelievers and secularists have been under a constant barrage of insults from the church, synagogue and masque forever yet for some odd reason we are supposed to "turn the other cheek" and show them respect when they give none in return.
This applies to ALL of the conservative flavors of any religion I have ever been exposed to and in particular the fundamentalist sects.
Fundamentalism is an oppressive POLITICAL movement that hides behind a smoke screen of religion.

It's a little paradoxical. You have to accept the possibility of God's existence. If you actually believe, then you have the "gift of faith." The gift of faith comes from God, but the work humans have to do in order to qualify for the gift is along the lines of saying the Doubter's Prayer: "Oh, Lord, I believe. Help thou my unbelief."
Being receptive to faith is what's important. Doubt is not a sin. It's a very sensible condition.

Re: Portman incites mob to anger with a kiss ... what the hell?
Orthodoxy is not fundamentalist, any who think so should do some research. it's just very strict and adherant to the OT (old testament).
From my knowledge there are 3 forms of Judaism ranging in degree of strictness: Orthodox (Hasidism falls under here although this sect was formed in Eastern Europe during the late middle ages or 1600's, i can't remember), Conservative, and Reform (of which my parents raised me as). The latter is fairly relaxed. I do not keep kosher, and I imagine if i tried it would be hard having tasted the sweet goodness of a Bacon Cheeseburger and my dad's awesome Baby Back Ribs. mmmm ribs. *drool*
As for proselatyzing, Jews aren't into converting others as much as Christians are. Hell if you want to become Jewish the Rabi will, during the course of your classes (yes you take classes on what it is to be Jewish and to become, a Jew), ask you three times whether or not you are certain you want to convert. Three of course is one of Judaism's mystical numbers as is seven, nine, and i think thirteen or fourteen.
Whether or not portman is at fault is debatable. If the signs were displayed clearly then yes. However, the production staff and location scouts definitely should have been aware of the customs regarding being near the wall.
Also, it is theorized that the Old Testament was written between 2500-1700 BCE and compiled and canonized I want to say between 400 BCE and 100 CE (a long process). The story behind whether or not the Book of Ecclesiastes was to be canonized is pretty cool.
Finally, Jews going to heaven or hell is fairly modern and was most likely developed during the Hellenization of Israel in 2-300+ BCE. Before that if you died you were either resurrected or just went to Sheol (think Greek Hades). Sheol is rather bland if you ask me, i mean what I have to stand around in the dark w/o even a bagel and schmear?
Read Maccabees 2 and 4 to see the evolution of Jewish thought. They are pretty much the same texts except you get to see Reincarnation in one and the concept of heaven, or God taking you up, in another. They are Apocryphal texts which actually aren't considered canon, but are still cool none the less. The apocrypha is often included in Christian Bibles (3 books, OT, NT and the Apocrypha in between the 2).
Also, Judaism doesn't really recognize satan so much. In fact IIRC "the fall" is a christian story, and Morning Star was actually a name referring to a Persian or Pheonecian (can't remember which, but he was an ancient guy) king who was a tyrant and lorded over the Jews as a conqueror of Israel.
If you want to know what it really means to be a Jew read Ecclisiastes (my absolute favorite book in the OT) and the Book of Job as well as some of the Psalms.
Like most religions, my religious text, the OT (the compiled books are also called the Tanach) is just a guide for Jews on how to live in a world with your fellow man. The rules and examples of them are told through often complicated tales. The hard part is seeing and recognizing the surface meaning of the books, chapters, verses and characters, then getting below the surface to find surface's true meaning.
While I think that Bible Code is a bunch of crap, I think we miss out on a lot of the OT's meaning by only reading the english version as many of the characters' names often give incite to the stories through their individual meanings.
anywho, i'm rambling.
boo hollywood and don't mind the grammar issues above, I did my best but this is my relaxed writing. I'll adhere to the rules when i'm writing a paper or story.

no problem. i'd have to say that one of my favorite teachers and one hell of an smurf, Jay Holstein really sparked my interest into my own religion (yeah kinda sad). He teaches or at least did, he may have retired by now (if not fired), at the University of Iowa.
Quest for Human Destiny was his most popular class but he taught others. If you go to UofI i suggest taking one of his classes.
I was a double major during my undergrad days, English and Religion. If it wasn't for his, "your grades suck," comment, I'd probably be at some seminary type school to become a rabi. his comment really fuct me up, but meh.
I still have an interest in my religion and like what i'm studying now.
