I worry about where it is currently heading, but I have faith that the wonderful people here will turn things around. In Canada, and elsewhere, you probably get a pretty stereotyped view of a homogenous population here. That could not be further from the truth. Things will change, and America will be an even better place. I hope, though, that that change does not take its time in coming.

Believe it or not, I absolutely adore America and its citizens. Despite my reliable criticism of its government -- in which I partake because I have high expectations for it -- I'm constantly, and angrily, defending the US of A. Kinda wacky, I guess, but it's true.

Re: I have a slight moral dilemma here.
The most important thing to remember is that this is not a 'Holy War'. It is not a matter of Christianity against Islam. The insurgents and various terrorists want it to be just that. It is a collection of governments against a collection of extremists. Although it has danced dangerously close to the edge of it, it is not yet another 'Crusade'. Many of the men and women fighting are not fighting because they feel a need to 'purify the heathen'. They are doing so because their primary job is the defense of our country. It is their duty to follow orders, not to 'take up the cross'. Often the intent of the government is not the same as the military. Soldiers do their duty because that is what they are paid to do. The leaders make the decisions and the policies, if anyone has a moral dilemma it would fall on them. The soldier is merely a player in a grander game.
In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.

That's funny. I'm actually a decendant of Andrew Jackson. It's sort of bittersweet, heheh. On the one hand it's something to be proud of, having a President in the family and all, but his trackrecord wasn't the best.

Are you nuts? In a world full of genocide and brutal totalitarianism, Wounded Knee is bush league. Not to trivialize that, of course.

Random thought.
"AC: This same mural extends over to another mural which depicts all of the children of the world taking the weapons from each country on earth and giving them to a central figure which is a German boy who has this iron fist and anvil in his hand that is totally out of proportion to the child's body, beating the swords into plowshares. I thought, well, this is very odd depicting a German child doing this. What all this symbology on the airport murals seems to convey is that not only do we have a secret society behind this, but that it is a German secret society behind this, working in the vicinity of this New World Control Center.
DA: It is interesting when you consider Operation Paperclip wherein all these Nazis were brought to the United States to be groomed, financed, and basically brought back into power.
AC: Well, I know they're here, because I have seen them along side the Americans in the more sensitive areas of the airport. But, these paintings are most disturbing and very unusual."

Speaking as one of partially German decent, having lived there for some time as well, and having many German-decent friends and acquaintances, I think that Churchill was correct when he said:
The Hun--he's always either at your feet or at your throat.
The Germans will probably be the last people on earth to truly beat their swords into plowshares. They appear peaceful now, of course. But they are also well aware that they have taken over Europe as the major of the major members of the EU. As long as that standing is not threatened, there will be no problems. But there is a spirit within them that won't stand to be second best.

True, but neither the Italians or the Poles
really have it in them for major domination.
The French, British, and Germans do go for major domination and all have agendas that they want to push on the world (in contrast, the Poles have sausage and the Italians have pizza to push on the world).
The French, however, are too disorganized compared to the British and the Germans.
The British are too susceptible to liberal democratic thinking, so their domination only ever goes "so far".
The Germans, on the other hand, are ideological, organized, and quite willing to follow a militaristic leader to their deaths and the deaths of their children for "the cause". Plus the fact that they own a huge property, lots of Europe's resources, much of her monetary wealth, much of her heavy industry, much of her intellect...
...and they are damn hard workers to top it all off.
And even in North America, if you hang with enough German immigrants and/or their children (as I do) you will hear echos of "the South will rise again", except insert "Fatherland" for "South" and you get the drift.
Like I said, as long as they are running the roost over there, things will be quiet. But just start to try to pull out the carpet from under them, and there will be trouble again.
Historically the "BIG" countries will go in cycles, but they will always return again and again.
The historic league of the BIG (you may add to this list if you wish):
USA
Britian
France
Germany
Russia
China
Japan
Right now the USA has cycled to the top. The others will certainly take their turns in the batting order again...some of them in our lifetimes, I am sure.
And of the lot, the Germans are the most to be feared as they are bound to be the most coldly calculating, ruthless, and persistant.

Re: I have a slight moral dilemma here.
I honestly don't think that old-skool imperialist domination is really possible in many countries nowadays. It requires a cultural mindset that simply doesn't exist in western Europe anymore.
Invading and slaughtering and dying just because some leader says so? Hard to picture. That total conformity, total surrender of individual will, that once was so prevalent has pretty much gone the way of the dodo.
Not to mention the horrors of the 20th Century still exist within living memory. That stuff might not get talked about in daily life all that much, but it still casts a mighty long shadow.
