I dont really swear that much in posts (usually) and I have been deliberatly avoiding it since the age of Smuf decended on us.
Some people around here do swear one heck of alot and those are the posts that really look silly.
All that smurfing you see in the first post in this thread is verbatum what I typed. I typed "smurf" not something else. Although I was thinking something else.

Heh, and well their posts should look silly if they curse a lot.
I mean really. If you can't be more creative in your comments when you're irritated with somebody, you're just showing your lack of skill.

Ya, there are a few posters here who would be rendered mute if "F" "SH" or "MFer" were removed from the language.
Actually I think just setting the filters to simply bounce any posts that contain language MacAddict corporate deems unacceptible would be more forthright and honest and it sure would serve to improve alot of peoples vocabularies.

sure, but it's just not a good rant if you can't have some gratuitous invective flying about, now is it? Takes all the flavor out of it. Like eating cold pancakes with no syrup. Bleah.

There is a way to "code" it so that it isn't filtered. But oatmeal said that if anyone does it again they will be banned.
Well, I tried but I unfortunately couldn't figure it out.
No ban for me.

I've got style. More than you'll know, you inbred chimp fetus. I simply maintain that cussing adds some flavor. Seasoning.

Cuss words would have reduced the quality of that insult. Flavor added by cussing is bland and tasteless.

there's a (not too painful) way to see what people are really writing... quote their post with the quote link. in the text field, their original words will appear, sans filtering.

It seems odd to me that this type of filter dodging has not been considered a bad offense, and yet the "[i]" tag is.

Filter dodging is one of those things we don't like, but its not quite a banable offense. If you don't ever care to be a moderator, you'll probably not get in too much trouble over it. We'll just go ahead and add those dodges into the censor. Now everybody can enjoy even more undecipherable text. You can thank the filter dodgers.
For a professed Christian, more or less, you certainly don't seem to mind cursing.

for a moderator, you dont seem to read that many threads!
and like i said, i dont care if you add them to the filters. in fact, i think you should. i am a big boy now, and i actually prefer the freedom to type whatever the fu<k i am thinking.
if it reads funny, then i have no one to blame but myself... right?

Re: Smurf, smurf, smurf, smurf, smurf, smurf, smurf, smurf, smurf, smurf,
I hate to be an ass, but knock it off. We've made it clear that circumventing the filters will earn you a temp ban. We've been lenient, but you just keep pushing.
As for this whole issue, I think it's dumb that so many of you can't seem to function with filters in place. Yes, eventually I'll allow it to be user selectable (although I think I'm going to miss my two week deadline), but in the mean time, what's the big deal? So you see "smurf" occasionally. Usually you can figure out what word was meant to be there, but if not, who cares? Meh.
Hard work may not kill you, but why take chances?
