Re: Dumb ?: Toggle Strafe?
Switches between the turn R & L to strafe R & L.
No I don't think anyone uses it. Same with the the turn R & L. Can you say "Mouse Look."

Re: Dumb ?: Toggle Strafe?
That's what I thought. I'd just been completely MiniGun- strafed by a real artist, and had been wondering if they knew something I didn't.

Re: Dumb ?: Toggle Strafe?
Try turning down your Mouse Sens.
I started out at 5...yeah I liked being a twitchy mofo. Went back to 3 after I saw my Eff was <40%. Now I'm at 2 and my Eff. is >50% and climbing. I did this after a post on the INA forums on Mouse Sens. Many good players have their sens. set at <2. Like 1.5 to 1.75 seems normal for the good players.

Doh I was being stupid using proportions, you can actually set it higher for 1600x1200.. I'd have to find a way to calculate it..
Please post the equation. I play at 1280X1024.
Oh and forget big ugly crosshairs.

Actually I ues a custom crosshair package that has a black & white dot. Since switching I haven't "lost" my crosshair.

H = horizontal resolution
A = angle of rotation
A = arctan(2/H) //do this in degree mode
(A*4114.285714*)/360 = pixel perfect sensitivity setting.
This also assumes a FOV of 90 i think. Now I was right the first time lawl, if you want to hit every pixel you will have to lower your sensitivity because the value represents a distance to move. Increasing the pixel count means that you have to lower the distance moved to hit each pixel, If i were to make an analogy it would be like walking on a tiled floor, if the tiles are shrunk, you have to reduce your stride to step on each one.
I know I know I was wrong...

So what would the sens. setting be?

Re: Dumb ?: Toggle Strafe?
at ur resolution 1.02
at docs resolution .68
This is if you want to take advantage of having more pixels to aim at. You can leave it at 1.28(perfect setting for 1024x768) but it means that you can only effectively hit 1024x768 pixels out of your current resolution.

Re: Dumb ?: Toggle Strafe?
And where would I set a .68 sensitivity? In the INI, or the OS X System?
Fascinating stuff, kool!

Re: Dumb ?: Toggle Strafe?
Ok, thanks Koola. I've been using anywhere from 3 to 5 Mouse ZSens, so using .68 is like being in molassess. It's mostly about looking around with the mouse. I'll need more deskspace for mousing, I think.

Yup, I tried the 1.02 setting and ran out of mouse pad too soon & too fast. I will say that I was getting great accuracy. First time in a long time that I pulled off 3 head shots in a row.
Two things I noticed with that setting were:
1) Normal movement wasn't bad and accuracy was great.
2) Driving on the other hand became a chore and lost some maneuverability. That is where I found myself constantly picking up the mouse because I ran out of space.
I'm back at 2 but maybe 1.5 could be a happy medium.

3 headshots in a row wowz0rz. Best run i've ever had was 13 frags with 2 headshots when I was above the opponents. np brain. I hate making recommendations (u get that snobish feeling) but if you guys run across a 1500+ dpi mouse, I think it would help. From what I see both of you are high-sens.

Re: Dumb ?: Toggle Strafe?
Thanks, Koola. It's better than a toss up; I just need to go back to the drawing board.
After practicing with the new settings awhile I hit the public DM servers, and noticed I was able to make the shots I used to only marvel at others making: LG shots and non-combo, non-AltFire Shock shots from a distance. So it's definitely helping. With a little practice, I could be making the combo I'm most often fragged by: an LG shot, followed by a quick Flak blast.
The downside: I was getting fragged a little more often from behind, as my turn reaction is greatly slowed; need mouse space!
Thanks again.

Hey, do you fire one weapon and switch during the cooldown?
Yes it's a must if the LG isn't an instant kill with the first shot.
Long distance:
LG followed by Shock or Mini
Close range:
LG followed by Flak or Rocks.

I think toggle strafe is a holdover from the days when mouse use was rare or nonexistent.

That info from koola has got to be, imho, the best damn thing I've heard about tweaking UT in, like, forever!

Re: Dumb ?: Toggle Strafe?
Yeah a while back, one of these guide sites I read was saying the LG plus Flak was the way to go, unless you get a Headshot out of the gate. BTW, I got my first couple of Headshots after using Koola's tweak. I've never gotten anything but totally random (lucky as all get out) HS' otherwise. I should wire a keystroke to switch between them.
