Re: The last level in Warcraft 3

It took me a few tries to beat that mission. My strategy was get 3 gold mines as quick as possible just build as fast as humanly possible. I'd build MASSIVE and I mean MASSIVE amounts of towers and place several unit manufactures per base so my troops didn't have to move from my home base. I was able to hold off the enemy at the orc base until that final minutes and I won

Re: The last level in Warcraft 3

I definitely couldn't beat it without building new unit manufacturers below.

Re: The last level in Warcraft 3

And make sure you never stop producing Wisps to build new buildings (namely Protectors) close to your allies' bases, and keep the queue in all of your unit production buildings filled to the top whenever possible (having three gold mines and plenty of wisps harvesting lumber really helps).  If you keep your queues up, even if you hit your food limit, the units being readied to train will stay in the queue ready to pop out whenever anything dies, keeping a fresh supply of soldiers at your disposal.  What I also did, aside from putting my unit production buildings close to the enemy base, is to set the rally point for new units in the same place, so my forces are focused and can find strength in numbers.

Also, don't concentrate too much on casualties you suffer, because you'll absolutely suffer quite a few until you get really good at the level.  I also suggest not focusing on trying to micromanage your whole army.  I just let them congregate in a large group, tell spell-casters to autocast whichever spell I think will be most effective, then let the AI and sheer numbers take it over from there.  If I think I can utilize a particular units' strengths and abilities to swing the tide of combat in my direction, then I will micromanage them, but otherwise, I focus on using my heros and their powers.  Summon Treants with your Archdruid to bolster your forces, and his healing rain magic to keep your unit strength up, use the High Priestesses' magic arrows and Starfall (or whatever it's called) to cause lots of damage to the powerful demon heroes the enemy has and to damage large groups of enemies at once, respectively.

I think the trick is to not let it overwhelm you, and get lost in the chaos trying to micromanage and preserve your units, because it simply can't be done that way unless you're an expert.  Keep producing units, back up your allies, and focus on unleashing the full extent of your heroes' powers; let the AI handle your forces for the most part.  It certainly worked for me when I beat the level on the hardest difficulty on my second try.  wink

I beat it by going offensive.  The guardans aren't powerful enough to protect you.  I just kept on sending units to the allied computer's bases.  Their forces augment your own, and you delay the enemy advance by a lot.

Re: The last level in Warcraft 3

Does anybody remember the last mission in the Protoss sequence of the Brood War StarCraft Expanson Pack? That was fun - I ended up beating it by hiding my heroes and building a huge fleet with which I thrashed every Zerg on the map. I didn't have many units left when I was done, but they didn't have any, andI simply activated the timer and went to the bathroom. When I came back, I had won.

Overkill is a good thing. Try it.

The uber cheap way to do it is to hide an ancient protector deep in the back of the woods by eating your way there.  That's the only way that I could beat the level on the hardest setting.  Otherwise, on normal, it's pretty easy.

Re: The last level in Warcraft 3

I'm relatively new to WC3 and im not sure what the last level looks like.  It sounds like they are getting you in sheer numbers.  What I would do is just build towers(or equivelant to towers).  Lots of towers.  This will keep them busy while you keep raking out guys.  It gives you the advantage.

Another thing that might help is to have multiple bases.  Protect you main base well with towers and men, while in your second base, have tons of barracks.  This way you can hit them from more than one place and if one falls, youve got a backup.

If all else fails, just use the cheats!
