About the last KOTOR patch...

D/led Brad's 1.03c update since it states possible better performance with certain Radeon cards. Know its only beta but has anyone else gone thru Kashyyk with a R8500/R9000/R9200 desktop or mobility chip and have loads of graphic glitches. Can't even see where i'm walking in the shadowlands, like walking thru polygons.

Unless its just my iBook. I have noticed graphic glitches in Recon too with the R9200M inside my iBook 1.2Ghz.

Re: About the last KOTOR patch...

Hmmm, i'm seeing the same issues on my Beige in the COD demo now that I saw on the iBook when I originally tried that demo. Same GPU, graphics all screwed up. Was fine with X.3.5 and maybe X.3.6. Think it may have been one of the recent OSX updates. The last 2 did have GPU updates in them.

Oh well, I got past the Shadow Lands bit despite the graphic problems. Things are fine again. But I wonder what other area is now going to be screwed up.

Re: About the last KOTOR patch...

Well, maybe I should try the official 1.0.3c patch instead of the beta. Maybe that will give a difference. Ran into the same issues in the West Courtyard of Manaan last night.

Re: About the last KOTOR patch...

I'm not sure how it is in on the Mac version, but when I got KOTOR for the PC, There was a terrible studdering issue for me when I ran the 1.00 version.  Basically, the game would slow down to a 5fps crawl every now and again.  What I had to do was pause, spin the camera around til it smoothed out, and unpause and continue.

Patch 1.03 fixed that and made the game hella more playable, and thanks to the new version of cedega, I don't even need windows to play it!

Anyway, off-topic, but sorta relavent.

Re: About the last KOTOR patch...

The official patch fixed it. Game runs fine now, but I still don't see any speedup for the R2x0 core GPUs. Maybe its for desktop GPUs with super fast CPUs shrug.

The performance increase is most noticeable in areas with lots and lots of characters in a confined space, like cantinas.

Re: About the last KOTOR patch...

Oh, I see. Man it must have been really bad before your update then lol.

Btw, Brad, I found a new problem. On Tatooine when you kill the Krayt Dragon. The head of the Twilek hunter that helps you is all triangles except for the teeth. Kinda freaky at first seeing only his teeth moving.

Thats the only thing i've found after applying the proper patch. I'm almost at the end of the game. On Korriban right now, then next stop Yavin before I hit the Star Forge system. I'll post if I run into anything else that is strange.

Re: About the last KOTOR patch...

Bah! can't even leave the ship in the Star Forge system. Game crashes everytime. Checked error report and the first thing it says is ATIRadeon8500GLDriver then something about the Vertex buffer. The notes after that all involve the GL drivers in some way.

E-mail me the saved game you're using to get the crash - bradman@pobox.com

Re: About the last KOTOR patch...

Well its working on my Beige G3. Too slow to play but I figured i'd test it to see if it suffered the same fate. It has a R9200 PCI 128MB. Maybe its an issue with the R9200 Mobility chip shrug.

Re: About the last KOTOR patch...

Well now none of my save games will open anymore on the iBook. I've even started new games a few times, none of them will load. Freezes up everytime it begins loading. Damn I hate this laptop. Might want to put a note in the Aspyr game agent stuff that their games might have problems on Radeon 9200M GPUs. Apple probably needs to run another graphics update on them. Between this problem with KOTOR and then crippling texture glitches with Recon that almost looked like it was drawing iPods on streets and walls, this is bad.

Beginning to miss my iBook G3 900 right now big_smile.

Did this problem start with an update to 10.3.8?

Re: About the last KOTOR patch...

Well, these just happened recently, so thats a yes. I am using X.3.8. I would even start new games just incase my save game files were corrupted somehow and it would still lock up in the loading screen when I tried to load them after quitting the program.

I just tried removing the save game folder to force KOTOR to make new ones and this has worked but I don't know for how long it will work. The save game system in Mac KOTOR doesnt really seem to work right to me. Mostly its the auto save feature. Never been able to get it working like it does on the PC version. Sometimes I see the autosave game come up, but most of the time I dont.

Re: About the last KOTOR patch...

Well I tried something. I loaded the problem save file onto my Cube (G4 600/1GB RAM/Radeon 9000 64MB), then I left the Ebon Hawk. Worked fine so I saved the game with my character already outside the ship then loaded it back onto the iBook. It came up for a few seconds. Was able to take maybe a couple steps. Then the system seemed to be really struggling before the program crashed completely.

Looks like its that Star Forge world that you land on. Course the iBook is still very stock. Maybe its my RAM or VRAM limitations. Thinkin about picking up a 512MB stick while the prices are down at OWC.

Re: About the last KOTOR patch...

Well, it is not the RAM. I just installed another 512MB into the iBook. It loaded up and ran for a few seconds. Enough to walk around a little bit more than before. But then it crashed quicker than it did with only 256MB. Guess its VRAM or GPU related.

Re: About the last KOTOR patch...

Found the problem! It has to do with having grass enabled on that Star Forge world. Don't know why cause it worked fine on Dantooine and that planet had a lot more grass but whenever the camera is turned towards the temple when standing outside the Ebon Hawk, it instantly crashes. It crashes even if I have all the graphics settings on low. So I guess I just don't run that last world with grass enabled.

Man I wish I would have thought about this sooner but I really didnt have a chance to see this until I got more RAM which helped it last just long enough to see when it would crash.

Re: About the last KOTOR patch...

So if I get the patch I could put it on my arm and get over KOTOR. Is that right NC.
