Re: THE CULT OF MAC/ the book
After spending thousands on 3 Macs in the last 5 years, I'd say that my obsession is pretty bad.
iMac DV+ $1299
iBook $950
Power Mac G4 $1423
Studio Display $770
Gray Creature Speakers $99
MS Office (could have waited for iWork though) $150
MS cheepo Basic Optical Mouse $7 (never use it, for non-Mac visitors only)
OTHER JUNK
I know that after accessories and software purchases, this G4 has put a $2400 hole in my pocket. (400 of that was payed by my aunt on this beautiful Studio Display).
So...I have the Mac obsession bad!

Re: THE CULT OF MAC/ the book
My total is looking like $5078. Somewhere around there. I included all 3 Macs, both EPSON and Lexmark printers, new keyboards and mice, speakers, and more expensive software.
The whole Power Mac G4 system alone makes up nearly half of that $5078.

It's a really good book, lots of stories and information, not so much about macs, as the people that use them, overall I'm satisfied with the purchase.

Re: THE CULT OF MAC/ the book
My personal expenses don't include a PowerMac 7200/120, iMac (Grape) 333MHz, and eMac 800MHz. Here is what I've payed for.
PowerMac G5 Dual 2GHz Rev C - $2500
23 inch Cinema Display - $1500 (rebate yay!)
Extra 1GB RAM - $40 after rebate
Logitech z680 Speaker System and optical connector - $350
iPod 15GB 3rd Gen - $300
I'm not even getting into software. Let's just say CS set me back a bit.
Dual 2GHz G5 RevC, 1.5GB RAM, 23 inch Apple Cinema Display, Logitech z680 5.1 Surround, Logitech Click! wired optical mouse
eMac 800MHz G4, 256MB RAM
Go off to sleep in the sunshine, I don't want to see the day when it's dying...
Mac OS 10.4 puts the GRR in Tiger, baby, yea!
