Graphic Converter ?s + Photoshop alternatives?
I'm trying out alternative image editting apps for a small publication which really doesn't need the Awesome Power(tm) (or expense) of Photoshop. I've downloaded Graphic Converter, and there's a couple of things I haven't figured out. Perhaps they are not possible.
Instead of a Color palette, a pixel's colour is displayed in the window frame, similar to pshop's Info palette. No matter what format I have the image in, this info always displays as RGB - can this be changed to greyscale or CMYK values?
Is it possible to sample and view colour information (

Hi
Graphic Converter converts CMYK images to RGB on opening and saving. And yes, you are right, Gimp won't deal with CMYK either. The only Photoshop alternative that I'm aware will deal with CMYK is the image editor that comes with the Corel suite of packages. It's not shareware, but it may be cheaper than Photoshop.
Unless you can get some old copies of xRes and work in Classic mode.
Good luck with your search. And if you find any alternatives please let us know, I'd also be interested in checking them out.

Re: Graphic Converter ?s + Photoshop alternatives?
Image modes can be changed in Graphic Converter at any time using Picture>Mode>... My biggest problem with GC is just the apparent lack of colour data available, otherwise it would be fine.
Another alternative I have found is PhotoRetouch Pro. I haven't downloaded the demo yet, so I don't know how versatile it is, although from the look of the website its focus is almost entirely on colour adjustment and management. Oddly, the website has no price listed - you must complete a form to receive a quote - I find this a little disturbing, probably for unfounded reasons.
The Coreldraw suite is no longer made for Mac. I have found other pshop alternatives, but they too are windows only.
