your opinion on Jonathan Ives - designer of Imac

hey,
was hoping you all could help me with an assignment... i would just like your opinions on Jonathan Ive, anything ranging from...
Do you think his work is amazing?
to
What would you say his personality is like?

And if you know of the band The Flaming Lips...could you make any comparisons between them and Jonathan Ive?

Anything you have to say no matter how small would really help!

thanks in advance,
Lea

My opinion is that this should be in the iPod forum.

Re: your opinion on Jonathan Ives - designer of Imac

I thought forums were there to help people but the two replies are criticism...i dont want to know about Ipods, I was just hoping for some opinions on Ive if you dont have an opinion then dont bother replying!  Those opinions will not do my assignment for me...they are there to aid diversity in our thinking and my lecturers have actually suggested such means of information.  If anyone does have anything useful to say it would be greatly appreciated

This is probably in the wrong forum. You may want to try Unplugged or Circuit Board. [MA] General is for Clan MacAddict, the gaming group.

Then you shouldn't post about Industrial Design and it's major influences in a GAME FORUM, twit.

And it's "iPod", you ignorant, colorful word I'm not allowed to use.

Jeez, thats a little harsh...

Is it really that hard to say, "why don't you try such-and-such a forum"

Kev's done that. Therefore, good cop role filled, currently unnecessary.

People should read before they post. Wouldn't you agree?

This is currently in the wrong forum, but that's not an excuse to be abusive. DBaJ is universal.

My first guess is that BB should inherit this, but he'll know better than I and and can spool up the threadapult again if needs be.

Re: your opinion on Jonathan Ives - designer of Imac

I read an interview with him when the first bondi iMacs came out in '98, and he seemed like he was pretty smart. He said that when he designed it, he was goinig for something that would seem "familiar" - to appeal to people on an instinctual level, I guess. It worked - they sold a lot of them.

I certainly like some of Apple's designs, although I never much cared for the iMac G4/Pixar Lamp design - on the other hand, there's only so many ways to connect a LCD to a small computer and have it be useful, but I honestly think that the G5 format should have been used in the first place. I don't know which of Apple's products are really Ive's designs and which aren't, though I suppose he and Steve Jobs have to okay everything.

The G5 iMac along with most of Apple's current consumer offerings are a little too suqare for my tastes as well - something a bit swoopier from certain angles, like the Pismo/Lombard/Wallsttreet Powerbook G3s were, would be more to my liking. However, I certainly don't think they look bad, and the whole white/chrome thing on the 1G iPods was kind of neat - I'd like to see more of that, maybe with the iBooks - the metal could function as an extension of the heatsink?

I sitting next to a G5 in a computer lab, and I must say - these computers are quite possibly the sexiest minitowers I've ever seen, if a bit larger than I might like in my living room. The G3/G4 towers had a good design from a maintenance and upgradability standpoint - nice roomy cases, easy opening, but everything from the B&W G3s through to the MDD G4s reminded me of those Fisher Price toys I had as a kid.

so s/h/it wouldn't have to.

it's pretty pathetic to do a report on a designer and not even know how to write the specific name(s) of the product(s).

even more, to me, is to make your first post a plea for someone else to do your homework and research.

Okay, here's something for your little report: Jonathan Ives used to do the voice of the snowman and sing on that Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer Christmas special.

Re: your opinion on Jonathan Ives - designer of Imac

One comparisons between that Ive's and Flaming Lips (that I can think of, off the top of my head, just before work *sigh*) is that seem to ooze post-modern cool.  Look at Ive's bubbly feel the Mac, which is sort of like the bubbliness of OSX.  Then there is the Flaming Lips, who enter their concerts in a big latex bubble, literally.

Yeah, I'm stretching it.  But heck, its off to work for me.  smile

P.S. Go easy on the new guy, fellow MAFers.  Discouraging people from what could be a discussion on Macs is a little counterproductive in the MacAddict Forums, don't you think?
