How Can I get UT2K4 Skins and Models To Work In The Game?

I love UT2K4! I love it a lot. Only problem is, I can't get most skins and models to work. I put the files in their repective folders, but every time I do so, the game crashes when I try to start it up! I want to see an all-out CPU deathmatch between Malcolm, Gorge, Xan Kriegor, Master Cheif, Megaman, Link, Bender, and Samus Aran, darnit! Any suggestions?

Don't bother...

Problem solved, next!

Only way to trouble shoot it is to load each model one at a time then launch the game. When it crashes you've found your broken model. Don't use that one, find another or report the crash to the designer. Too bad most of them are PC fan boys who don't give a damn.

The first 3 are game defaults no probs there. Master Chief in the lastest HaloUT update (1.7.2?.5?) is the best MC model hands down. Megaman, Link, Bender and Samus...those four I have no idea what to suggest.

Oh and see our Tips/Tweak/FAQ sticky. Some mods run great in the package, some like it better out side the package. DocB has all the goods there.

Re: How Can I get UT2K4 Skins and Models To Work In The Game?

Thank you. Oh, here's another question. I just recently bought a Logitech USB headset built to run on my PS2. I got it yesterday so I can talk trash to people on SOCOM II online, and I decided to try out the headset with my PowerBook. I went to the Sounds control preference panel, and it had the headset on the list of compatible sound input devices. I was wondering if the headset would work with UT2K4 or not. (I've tried the built in microphone, but it doesn't seem to work).

I was also curious if my PS2 headset would work on my PC like my current mic does. I bought a $25-$30 headset for my PC and the headphones hurt the crap out of my ears after about 10 mins in the same spot. I finaly got it setup so that they are off my ears completly, but I still prefer the PS2 ones over these, as I dont use the ear speakers, just the mic. Ill have to hook it up and see if I works hehe.

It must be a HID compliant USB device if it shows up in the Sound prefs pane therefore it will work. big_smile

Re: How Can I get UT2K4 Skins and Models To Work In The Game?

With regard to models and skins... I think the best place to install them is the package. This is the place they are most likely to work. Any karma files MUST be installed in the package or they simply will not work.

Another way to find a problem package (this applies to anything you install including maps) is to bring up any map with high number of bots set then after starting it close it, exit UT and look at the UT2004 log file in ~/Library/Application Support/Unreal Tournament 2004/System folder. Look for ERROR or WARNING lines to give you clues as to why something may not be working. BTW

Be aware that if you play on AntiTCC servers some models/skins will get you kicked since they will not register with AntiTCC as a non-hack.

Honestly don't bother with custom skins online at all AntiTCC or not. In order for a skin/model to work correctly online all players and the server must have it installed. If they don't they just see you as the default Gorge.

Ya but you get to see your pretty custom model/skin when you die. big_smile
