question about overclocking a B&W G3 350
I'm interested in seeing if I can overclock the stock G3 350 MHz cpu that came in my B&W system, it's a Revision 2 motherboard if that helps any.
How much should I be able to overclock it? I've heard that I would only be able to get about 50 more MHz out of it tops, I was hoping it could go higher.
if not I probably won't bother.
I was wanting to get a powerlogix 1 GHZ g3 zif upgrade for it, but I just got "downsized" by the company I used to work for, they combined my job with one of the other jobs in my department, and unfortunately for me the other guy had been there longer, so there goes any upgrades for my Mac until I can find another job.
If I can get a little more power out of the stock cpu I'll go that route, it's cheaper
Thanks guys!!
LGIT

Re: question about overclocking a B&W G3 350
Try for that 50Mhz. There are jumpers on the motherboard which control the speeds. Check www.xlr8yourmac.com for more info. Its not hard to find.
The CPU may do 450 but I wouldnt get your hopes up on that too much. Try for 400 first before shooting for 450. Only things you have to be aware of are the voltage and maybe the speed of the L2 cache. Then of course be sure to watch heat levels.

Re: question about overclocking a B&W G3 350
OK I tried changing the jumpers on my G3 and confirmed that I could only get a 50 MHz overclock before my system started having issues, so I put the stock jumper block back on it and I'll be keeping it set to stock settings, hopefully I will be able to get another job soon. I've sent out over 35 resumes to prospective employers who were advertising in the AJC or online but so far I've only gotten 1 turn down and no responses to the others. Does anyone in the North Georgia area know anyone who is hiring for their IT department?

Can't help you but good luck.

Well, 50Mhz does help. I remember when I went from 300-333 then to 375. Every little bit did help. Just not as much as it did with a new processor. But until I got that new processor I had to do what I could.
