In terms of pope stories, I can't stand the coverage, but I just have to flick briefly past CNN to catch adjectives. "Serene" ... "kind" ... "devoted" ...

The strongest, and most outrageous one so far has been "Christlike."

Yeesh.

Christlike?  They're infringing on Terri Schiavo's legacy here.  Whoever said that one will soon be on the receiving end of a Schindler-suit.

Didn't I hear one of the wing-nuts actually say that Terri was going to rise again?

Re: Contest: Most Inane Pope Story Award

So are we going to see a fight between the Reaganistas and the Catholics as to who was the man who single-handedly defeated communism in our time?

I think we should get the opinion from the communists about who defeated them. I say, send the press to China and lets find out!

Re: Contest: Most Inane Pope Story Award

The local Fox station sent the bubbly, dumb newscaster to Rome to cover the funeral of the Pope. Today she filed a story in which she rambled on and on about all the great Pope souvenirs you could buy on the street. "These are things you can take home and be proud of for the rest of your life."

It was like watching a Midwestern housewife talk about her beanie baby collection.

Looking at the American flags at my local Walmart that are made in China, I would say that the communists won.

Here's one that's not inane: Christopher Hitchens gets grumpy about the pope

Be warned, he's not exactly gentle with the Church; he never has been.

Re: Contest: Most Inane Pope Story Award

The reason this pope is regarded as the Greatest pope, is because he was so active.  Now i understand no other pope's had planes to fly around the world in, but this pope was known to everyone!  Instead of sitting back in the vatican, he worked hard to connect with his people all around the world.

I do not think he will be canonized you need have 2 miracles for that to happen.

He stood firm on what the church was and should continue to be.  He also publicly said that women will not be allowed to consecrate the eucharist, and no pope has overturned what another pope has officially stated.  So thats not happening.

Mother Theresa didn't perform any miracles either, but that hasn't stopped the process of her canonization.

(some) rules are meant to be broken, doncha know!

But just think about letting homos be themselves and you're toast ...
