Warcraft III without CD?
I recently bought a new laptop and I would like to play WarCraft III on it. It gets really annoying to have to remember to bring the CD along with me whenever I go places and want to play WarCraft. Is there a patch or a way to run Warcraft III without having to insert the CD?

For some games you can just make a disk image and mount it, but not with Blizzard games. I'm sure there's a patch somewhere, but that would be considered "circumventing copy protection" and is therefore illegal.

Where, I doubt its illegal if its for personal use, like DVDs.

Yeah, that can get pretty annoying. Luckily my brother found a program called Toast that lets you make CD images. They are about 700MB, and you can mount the image with either Toast or DiskImageMounter.

Re: Warcraft III without CD?
Whoa, whoa, whoa! Don't steal software! Toast is a commercial program, so by stealing it, you deprived Roxio, Inc of around $70! Talking about doing stuff like that can get you banned around here!
Besides, I already said disk images didn't work.
And yes, macmenace, it is illegal under the DMCA (in the USA anyway). It shouldn't be, but it is. Along with DVD ripping and removing copy protection from iTunes songs.

Re: Warcraft III without CD?
I've been using CD images for Warcraft III for a while now. They do work :\
(I edited the other post to prevent any problems)

So, I guess there is no legal way to do it?

Just because he said that his brother found the software does not mean that he stole it. He could stumbled upon it in CompUSA for all we could know. So please don't jump to conclusions, and read between the lines of someone's post.
... back on topic...
*sigh* We have had several topics in this forum about mounting your Warcraft III or Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne without using the CD in the drive.
... What you need to do is insert your disc, open disc copy, and make an image from device. Be sure to name the image exactly as the CD shows up on your desktop. Once the image is created eject the CD and mount the image. Warcraft III should start up and play fine. This is how I play Warcraft III on my laptop, due to the fact that a virtual image takes less battery power when mobile then spinning a CD in the drive.

Re: Warcraft III without CD?
didn't mac addict have a tutorial on this? A recent tutorial (don't tell me you didn't get it)? you just need to make a disk image using disk copy (unless the game is on a dvd, then use roxio toast, warcraft isn't) and lock the image file. when you open it, the computer should think it's the cd.
