Thanks for the info. I googled up a bunch of pages from last night, but all I find are of the "it's a conspiracy" stripe. If it's nothing sinister I'd like to think it would be easy enough to find a proper explanation, and that no one would waste their time spinning BS out of nothing. (There's nothing about it on snopes.com, either; this must be a really high-level coverup! wink )

Often enough two of these things will meet perpendicularly, in the shape of a perfect letter T, with no overlap of anything. Other times you can see a plane leaving such trails, while there are similar sized jets elsewhere in the sky (seemingly at about the same altitude) leaving no visible exhaust or only the same very short one that dissipates very quickly (ie, the same standard jet exhaust trails I've been seeing for 35+ years).

It's funny how this effect only started happening recently (about 3 years). If they're using a new type of fuel or engine I imagine we'd hear about it either way (the company would trumpet how eco-friendly it now is, or the enviro faction would raise a stink about it).

Like I said before, there is no proof of any of this... not to mention no one in the media that has any level of credibility, or any 3rd party research facility has agreed to any of these findings. If there was going to be anything even a miniscule bit of information I'd expect to see something.  I've not...

And as for saying I'm not observant, I've lived near an air force base for over 25 years... you'd think I'd probably be one of the first groups affected if any of this was real.

No proof of what? I didn't say the conspiracy hypotheses are correct, I just noted they were there, and asked if anyone had a more reasonable explanation for it. (Evidently you don't.)

What I do have "proof" of is that (1) there's an entirely new type of cloud in the sky and (2) it's produced by jet aircraft. I see them every day, both being laid down and staying in place for a very long time; it's odd.

Not necessarily.

A new type of cloud? Or just the possibility that the trails from the planes as it is may have some type of constancy in where that the atmosphere as it stands now may condense around the residue particles and prolong the life of the trail?

It's a new phenomenon no matter how you slice it. Are you suggesting that the atmosphere is so different today (vs 3 or 4 years ago) that jet exhaust now behaves in a completely new manner? And that the "atmosphere as it stands now" is so variable that when two planes are flying relatively close together, one will leave such a trail and the other will not?

Yup, don't forget we have been changing the gas we have been using, and the airplanes use a higher quality of the same fuel, more additives etc... and if you want to believe the green earth people, we have more crap in the atmosphere as a whole than we did 15 years ago so I expect the atmosphere would be a tad bit different.

Different jets using different types of fuel would explain why one plane leaves a trail and the other does not. What that wouldn't explain is why some of these trails end abruptly (I doubt they cut off the engines midflight), and on top of that, why they end right at the spot where they intersect another such trail (forming a large T shape).

I guess it's possible that some of the planes are carrying two different loads of fuel (say, tanked up at two different airports), and just happen to switch tanks so smoothly and immediately that the trail ends on a dime, and by chance just as they're crossing another trail.

If nothing else it's a strange sight.

True, but it could also be something to the extent of where that once they hit a certain temp they stop spewing stuff... it's like the exhaust at the end of a car, once the car warms up in the middle of the winter, it no longer lets out bellowing steam/smoke.

I'd almost rather it was a secret defense project of some sort; that way I'd at least know that some of my tax dollars are going toward something useful for a change.

Actually aircraft fuel has to be amazingly consistent and has very little change in the formula.  Heck aviation fuel (not jet) still has lead in it.

Halelujah! This thread is Risen from the Dead!!  Wait, the rules say 2 months of inactivity is proof of death, but in my book, 40+ days is a bona fide miracle!

Yeah, this thread was brought up just for nailybug SPAM.

Aw, he's no fun, he fell right over.

Unless you become as little children, there's no way you will believe this crap.
