iTunes 4.8 needs video sharing.
How much do you wanna bet that's exactly what Apple's planning for the next Airport Express and iTunes (or at least a version of AE and iTunes in the not so distant future)? First is music, next is movies. The only difference between movies and music as far as ones and zeroes go is file size. Apple figured out the protocols to stream protected music within a wireless network, so it's just a matter of applying it to movie files and adapting it to much larger file sizes and video signals (I make it sound easier than it probably is).
I don't believe video iPod is coming out anytime soon, because of the level of immersion and concentration you need to dedicate when watching movies compared to listening to music, but movie streaming within your own network is logical. You can store your movies on a central server at home and stream it to televisions connected to advanced Airport Express units capable of steaming video.
What I'd like to know now is whether current US copyright laws allow for such operations and what sort of resistane there will be from movie studios.

Re: iTunes 4.8
The only problem that I see with an AirPort Express: Video Edition is the processing for the video. Isn't H.264 (seems like the obvious choice for the video) pretty intensive to decode? The only possible choice that I can think of would be to stream raw RCA or S-Video to the Express and output directly. That seems like it'd be a bit intensive on the bandwidth.
That said, Apple has to be looking into this. The year of HD has to mean something here.

Should Apple still call iTunes, iTunes?
I've been thinking about that as well... iMedia? I don't know though, that's sort Microsoftish.

Check this out.
I'd say both are likely.

And you don't suppose that a vPod could be that server?

Why would the server be a separate machine from your computer? Apple have moved the Mac from just a computer to a digital hub. You create content on it, you store content in it, you serve content from it. That's the whole idea behind iMovie, iDVD, iPhoto, GarageBand, and especially so with iTunes.
You can already serve audio to your sound systems through AirTunes and now, with iTunes being able to store video, it makes sense to upgrade AirTunes and thus Airport Express, to allow video streaming to your TV.

Re: iTunes 4.8
Which defeats the purpose of the Mac being the digital hub. If anything is portable, it would be the video player, not the video server.

The only thing I want out of iTunes now is AAC VBR instead of relying upon Quicktime 7.0 Pro.

Re: iTunes 4.8
If you click on a trailer on QT Player, it'll open up in iTunes. Has it been like this or did it start from 4.8?
