Home Network using Mac OS X Server

Can I use my machine:

Powermac G4 FW800 MDD 1.25x2
2 GB RAM
30GB Boot Drive
80GB, 120GB, 120GB Internal Drives
250GB External Drive

I want to host a home network, just really to learn how it works, and be able to do all the updates to all the computers from one machine.  I have a lisenced copy of Mac OS X Server, and will be hosting between 4-6 machines.

My question is, can I use this as my personal machine to run OS X like I've always run it?  Or will I not be able to do the things I am used to?

All help is appreciated, all criticism is taken constructively.

FYI I am on the path for the first rounds of Oracle Certification, so running an Oracle 10g server may be something else I get into.  Nothing mission critical, simply to play and learn.

Yes, you will be able to do all the normal OS X client things you're used to.  Though the speed of the machine may be slower since it will be running services that aren't normally running on a regular OS X client.

Re: Home Network using Mac OS X Server

But on that machine even with the services running, unless someone is actually using the services you should notice no impact on performance.
Though, if its gonna be a long term solution you might just want to dedicate that machine to being a server and use something else as your main machine.
I have a Dual 1Ghz, 1.75GB ram running 10.3 Server with 100BT Ethernet full duplex and it runs like a champ. Its not running a full suite of services, just AFP, FTP, Web, DNS, Mail (outgoing only) and Print services.
